Working on putting light signals on my layout.
I would some expert opinion on which is the best digital decoder for light signals? Both Marklin and non Marklin.
The light signal I have are Viessmann.
Cheers

JVT Hi JVT, I'm using Marklin signals with built-in decoder. But my old layout has an old system, so I'm running it with K83 & K84 decoders by Marklin. As far as I know Viessmann also has decoders, so why not using them? Cheers Boris

Hi JVT, I personally use Viessmann 472x light signals with great success. Work perfectly with Vie 5229 decoder. Beware: 5229 decoder run only with 472X signal series (multiplexed signals) Wiped out Märklin 763XX because of too much problems. See post#2 at https://www.marklin-user...-and-other-decoders.aspx(also see links inside that post about my story...) Do not use 5224 decoder with Vie 40XX signals, except if you have an old Marklin 6021. If you wish to use 40XX signal series and be able to drive them with a CS2 and/or a computer, then use LDT decoders (LS-DEC-DB for instance; see http://www.ldt-infocente...ku.php?id=en:ls-dec-db). Do not use LDT decoders with 472X series, because of the special multiplexing protocol Viessmann has implemented. In summary, in my previous layout, I've used with success: -Vie 472X + Vie5229 decoders -Vie 4017 & 4018 + LDT LS-DEC-DB decoders All these signals were configured for DCC protocol use. I'm using Viessmann 5224 and 5210 signal modules with 401x signals.
Contrary to Fabrice's advice, I'm using the 5224 OK with a CS2 and or an Ecos with 401x signals (first time I've ever seen that recommendation - I'd be interested to know the reasons why).

Fabrice, can the LDT signal decoders you refer to be used to control track power?
Edit: I see you need the ZBM module in order to control track power.

Edit: I see you need the ZBM module in order to control track power. Hi, I've never used devices to control track power, as I'm computer driven. I think the LS-DEC-xx devices are only designed to switch on/off leds according to the signal type. As you stated, ZBM module must be added to manage track power. About your previous post, I was successful with 5224 device and CS2, but only once with MM protocol. After that attempt, I wasn't able any more to reprogram the 5224 device, so I gave up. It's all to do with the bridging wires for the type of signal you're using - I'm using 3 aspect signals. I think I did post somewhere as to how I got the 5224's going.
