This is maybe an question that have been discussed 100 times here, but I need some quick answers and ask this:

How should I change ESU LokPilot 4 decoder digital address with my CS 2 60214? It does not change the address from loco setup page and not from cv list where there is that address cv. I really hope that the loco dont have to be on program track and address can be changed at main track. I have had similar problems also with Tams and Uhlenbrock decoders (dont know the versions). Also with ESU LokSound 3.5 and LokPilot 3 decoders. I have just let the addresses be what they are, but now I have almost 80 digital locos and same addresses already for some locos.

I am totally unskilled with these ESU, Tams and Uhlenbrock decoders. I have installed one ESU LokPilot 4 decoder in one of my Nohab diesels, but could not change the address from factory address (60). Now I have two LokPilot 4 decoders waiting for installation and I would Like to get them to different address than 60. If someone (Tom = H0 for example ThumpUp ) could give me some advices how to change address in these? Are these all DCC decoders?

I can adjust motor cv properties to get the things run very well, but can not change the address.... frustrating! ThumbDown Yesterday I got an BR 03 with Märklin mfx decoder and the loco ran very roughly when it started moving. I adjusted the motor cv value 54 (if I remember right) from the value 128 => 110 and now it runs perfectly. Also loco speed was adjusted to very slow value and now it looks again like an Express train running nearly 150 km/h and not 50 km/h. Then also higher values for acceleration and braking delay to look more prototypically.

Thanks in advance for any help with these ESU, Tams and Uhlenbrock decoder address (and driving behaviour) change!

You can use your LP 4.0 as DCC or MM2, you to have to select one of them when you create the loco. POM is only available with DCC option.
UserPostedImage German trains era I-II and selected III, era depends on the mood, mostly Maerklin but i can be heretic if needed XD, heresy is no longer an issue.. LOL

I always change the address on the programming track. Register the locos as DCC locos and change the address on the Properties page (not the CVs page) and you can use addresses 1 through 10239. This should work for recent ESU, Tams, and Uhlenbrock decoders.

For ESU only: If you register the locos as MM programmable, you can use addresses 1 through 255 (but less speed steps and fewer functions).

Tom

Hi Tom and all,

I just converted an BR 86 that was modified to a weathered ÖBB version from regular 3096 BR 86. Also an 3149 SNCB BR 80 diesel (8058). Both with an ESU LokPilot 4 decoder. I used only an permanent magnet and did not change the commutator to a 5-pole version. Address change was really easy now when knowing how to do it. Loco on the programming track and change the loco address only from setup page. I created these as DCC locos with 126 speed steps. I gave address 86 to this "ÖBB" BR 86 and 58 for that SNCB "8058" small green-yellow diesel. The default address from factory were 03 and not 60 for ESU LokPilot 4 decoders.

What functions should these decoders have? So far I have found direction dependent lights (function button), F3 is slow driving mode and F4 disables acceleration and braking delay. Is there any functions for buttons F1, F2 or F5 =>? I did not connect the violet wire that is an extra output fuction maybe? Also not the blue and green ones as I use normal light bulbs and not insulated leds for lights. Green and blue are for lights grounding to decoder if I remember right? How many function outputs this decoder have and is it (or they) funtioning with F1 (and with F2)?

Cheers,
Janne

Green and violet are function outputs AUX1 and AUX2, blue is return for all functions. F1 and F2 should trigger AUX1 and AUX2 by default, but this can be changed using function mapping.

If you use AUX1/2 for the red rear lights, you can configure e.g. F2 to switch either AUX1 or AUX2 depending on the direction (and use F1 to switch double A lights on).

Janne,

all present ESU decoder (HO) with a 21 pin have 2 Aux functions, however you can obtain another 2 Aux functions (Aux 3 + aux 4 by using an adapter plate 50968 or 6 functions by using adapter plate 51970 and this gives you 4 Aux functions, 2 servo functions, Smoke unit, some modellers have questioned the price and the extra Aux. Functions which brings the decoder+ adapter plate to a recommended retail price of Loksound decoder (Euro 99.99) adadapter plate (Euro 39.95) combined to a total of Eyuro 139.94 or Euro 74.85 for a Lokpilot which is quite expensive compared with a Zimo decoder with the same characteristics.

Hello John,

Thanks for information. I am not willing to pay much for converting analog locos with digital components. I got these two 8-pin ESU LokPilot 4 decoders for around 20-25 euro each. No 5-pole anchors and the BR 86 "ÖBB" had already permanent magnet and the 3149 got it's magnet from my spare parts box. It was bought over half year ago. Actually I did not pay anything for these two decoders as they were changed to model trees that I didn't like and would have been useless forever. Not nice enough to my layout, but these locos surely are nice enough! ThumpUp

Now there is 84 delta or digital locos...

Thanks for all the help guys! You are very kind when you help me.

Janne
