Has anyone played with tram models in this forum ?

It seems hard to find the manufacturers and products outside Europe. Could you recommend me some manufacturers or brands, talking about your experience especially with the catenary and masts using?

Nowaday trams are also digitally developed by DCC or another new format ?

It would be much appreciated If posting the pictures of your collections. Smile

Hi Hsin,

For something a bit closer than Europe, you might try this retailer in Adelaide, Australia.
http://www.orientexpressmodels.com.au/FlexTram.htm

There are many manufacturers of trams in Japan, but I don't know any links to get you there.

Kimball

I have, there are a few makers in Europe and Kato in Japan but there are fewer that make them to the quality standard I want. I can recommend one in Austria Leopold Halling http://www.halling.at/ The tram in link provided in the prior post looks likely to be made by this brand. Just be mindful when ordering, cheapest models are just display versions without motors and to my knowledge they do not provide decoders only a connector (DCC ready) in some of the models, same with lights.

For masts and catanary, have a look at Sommerfeldt. Or at Hobbex

Special track systems are provided by Lunatram

Roco and Lima/Rivarossi have a few models of Düwag trams, which were typicall for Western Germany and Austria from the 1960s to the 1990s.

For Eastern European "Tatra" trams, MB Modely from Czechia is a good adress. Also Hermann und Partner from Eastern Germany are specialized on Tatra trams and special Eastern German models. The products of these two firms, however, are coming as kits.

British manufacturer "BEC Kits" provides a choice of whitemetal tram kits.

If you are interested, I could also recommend a number of small-series manufacturers.

Florian

The Adelaide tram are just made by Leopold Halling that Iamnotthecrazyone recommended.
This tram has great look and beautiful coating indeed.

Hi Iamnotthecrazyone

Thanks for providing me with the good link but I still have some enquries confused for these products.

I reviewed this web and noticed the column displayed "without drive / with drive. For some " with drive " trams equip with digital interface (NEM 625), do these represent DCC READY ? Should I buy decorder separately ? What does "same with lights " mean ? No LED or bulb lumination inside the car ? Is the pantograph dummy or really available ?

I'll try to clarify altough some things may have changed since I bought mine. To the best of my knowledge the ones that mention the digital interface will have an 8 pin (I think) connector for you to buy your own decoder. When lights are mentioned (extra cost) you only get headlights and perhaps red lights (like in mine) but no interior lights. The panthographs are dummy, current is taken from the rails like in a regular 2 rail set up. You are likely to be able to wire the panthographs to use it but I think you could complicate things unnecesarily. In my trams the construction is mainly made in a push and clip basis, they are fragile but from the things I have seen they are among the most detailed and better looking trams. They also have a very large selection which goes from very early to modern trams. Since my layout is far from finished I have only tested the trams, they run very well and the mechanism looks well designed.

If they say without drive it is only a dummy, not a working tram.

There is also the Swiss company Navemo which makes models of Zurich, Bern, Basel, Geneva and other trams. www.navemo.ch

I have also seen some interesting models from other European sources. Search for Strassenbahn at a major shop like Schweickhardt or Lokshop and see what is displayed.

The problem with streetcar stuff is that you won't find a dealer selling products from all or most of these firms. In many cases, you have to order directly from the manufacturers, via their online shops, or via Email. Even major dealers like Schweickhardt or Lokshop don't stock Halling products.

Another aspect is that many local are often exclusively made for local dealers and tram companies. So, at least for some time, they will be only available there.

Florian

To follow up the other maiin manufacturers' development like M / R / F the manufacturers producing tram models seems to have a long way to go.

Yes, i hardly find the complete equipments on the same web or dealers.
I cannot order different items such as catenaries, embeded tracks for trams on different web cause the shipping expenses charged repeatedly are too expensive to do tihis.

Thanks for the link

I've review this web but no english translation found.

The startset in this product seems not to include tracks / catenaries or controler but a motorized car and a trailer.

Postal charges,

I have one dealer in Germany and he doesn't mind if I send parcels or items to him and he will send these items on as 1 parcel, of course one cannot expect him to receive items he has on his itemlist.
