Hi crasyhh,

Wellcoem to the forum! As far as I know the 18.4 steamers were built between 1911 and 1931. After world war II the 18.4 were taken over by the Deutsche Bundesbahn and used on express trains in the southern Germany, e.g. the Stuttgart-Nuernberg line. The 18 466 that you own is from that period. With upcoming diesel traction they were retired from service until 1960.

Best regards

Hans Martin

I also picked one up from eBay. Had a hard time getting the smoke generator to make good contact, but now it runs fine. Looks great on the layout, too.

I've got 4 of these locos, in different liveries..

Originally it's a Bavarian loco (S 3/6) build for the faster person trains. Some locos even made it to a retirement in 1960. The loco gained lots of faim for it's coal efficiency and good characteristics and was used to pull the Rheingold trains. One of the locos has still survived and is since 1996 (I guess...) at the Bavarian Railroad Museum in Nördlingen in Germany.

Personally I think M*'s current P8 is ugly.
A real P8 should have (small) Wagner windscreens, not those modern Witte windscreens.

Are you sure? Newer locos always have the Witte screens.

Perhaps I like them without screens even more.

And what has a P8 to do with the S 3/6 ????? Wrong thread, I suppose ????

And why should a P8, if we stick to this topic then, not have Witte ??? As it had when they ran on German rails when I was young ????

Regards,

Hans

She may have them, but I just don't think they make her look pretty Smile

I'll read better next time (trying to get some work done too...).

Yes you may be right, but really the BR38 as looking in say 1968 with Witte is kind of a childhood memory. Doesn't matter really, these times are gone whether Witte or Wagner Windleitbleche .....[:0][:0][:0]
