I just won the set in an auction (2681) and am told there is also a 2881 set? Should I have gotten the 681? or are they pretty much the same thing?

Thanks guys!

Hi Sam!
It was nice seeing you yesterday! 2881 was the analogue set, 2681 Digital so you got the right one!

There are some differences between these sets. The 2681 is a digital set, for every 2 cars a function decoder is installed to switch the interior lights. The loco has also a digital decoder, but in my opinion it's not a very good runner so I would personally use the 37192 (BR 17, prussian livery, former S10 like in the set) to pull the beautiful cars. This loco has much better running characteristics.
The 2881 is a Delta version which doesn't have function decoders. So you bought the right version, but I would add a 37192 to it. (It's not very expensive too, you'll find this loco very often on eBay for less then 250 Euros)

Sam I have to say Dittos to Gus 's comment. The Kaiser set must be closely examined to realize it's true detail and beauty.

It is without a doubt, a work of Art and I believe it is a real beauty. My favorite of all Marklin items.

It has many small parts - I suggest you spread out a white sheet and then open the boxes. The small parts can come loose from the cars.

Examine the cars carefully under some magnification to see if there are any small items from the area arrount the roof structure that have come loose.

They are easy to reattach, but be very careful if you run these cars so as not to loose the little black attachments.

The second digit on 26/28 sets 6 Indicates digital and 8 indicates delta.

Thanks a lot guys... Quick followup to anyone with this set, and with the Mobil Station..... How do I get the digital to work it? With there being different decoders and all? OR will the MS know what to do if I pull up 2681 out of the database?

Frankly I may just display them and not run them, if very little..

Sam - I have two complete sets that have about 5 minutes of running time. To me this set is like a good bottle of red wine. It must be treasured and savored.

Look at the Ludwig set also - but be warned there are very few out there that are not damaged. Most have had to be repaired because they are so fragile when shipped !

So I am told... The 4 sets (one complete set) I am getting (from two different sources) claim to be brand new-in the box.. so I am hoping this is the case, as they are both from Germany and by sellers with 14000+ ratings.. But the price I paid is almost too good to be true, comparing it to "dealer" prices etc... but then It was a bidding item, so I guess I got lucky!

Hi Sam,

don't forget to tell us in which condition they arrived. And the prices which I have followed during the past year have varied greatly, so you really had the chance to win a lucky deal !!!!

Enjoy !!

I will Johann, however I am now having a problem finding the one set that I didn't win in my last auction... The set is the 89264 I believe, which the Kaisers Car with his Attendants.. I was high bidder on one, then BANG all of a sudden I lost it by 1 lousy Euro!

Anyway, I am now tracking down another set but the seller seems to have two sets for sale with the discriptions reversed... though I cannot tell for sure, as the pictures are really bad.

I am also not sure how "new" this set is, vs the 3 that I just got which were claimed to be brand new, and un used...

Here see for yourselves and see if you can make sense of these..

The desciptions are correct. The first one is the Kaiserin's salon car, the Kaiser's attendents car. The second one is the Kaiserin's attendents car and the dinning car.

I hope you're right, cause I just placed a substantial bid on it!

It's quite confusing with this set since all the cars look similar, yet there is just these little differences that are hard to pick up on...

Anyway... time will tell (3 days or so!)

Hi Sam,

you really got one kind of an interesting ebay name, I can tell you !! But let us know, what you used the pink rosebud tutu and the fairy wings for, which you have recently aquired ??

Oh Sam,

more serious now: did you place your bid on the offer with the dining car and the Ladies' car ?? Was that your intention ?? I thought you said elsewhere that you were going for the other one ??

Sorry, I don't want to trouble you though !!

First off, the Tutu.. is for my wife, she's an amature photographer (see my hope page to find her work on our kids), and she uses that kind of junk for backdrops/outfits, etc.. Man I'm sure it looked bad though ;-) The name is because freaking ebay has every imaginable name "already in use"... so I threw the book at them!

On to more important issues now biggrin

Frankly, Sad to say, I don't know the title for the car that I want the whole thing is quite confusing since they all look so alike and have the same 2681 on the box, I do know the that it has 2 and not one, of the coat of arms inside the crest, and not just the individual coat. In other words, it's this one...

Click here.. this the one I am trying to get... and it appears to be the same as the on I bid on... or not?

Oh Sam !!!

This is turning out to be a bit complicated, because, quote from auction:

"Achtung! Bin Aufmerksam gemacht worden das ich die Fotos von Artikel Nr. 7310883669( andere Auktion) und jene hier vertauscht habe! Bitte beachten!

Natürlich bekommt der Käufer den richtigen Waggonset!"

Which tells us basically that the photos have been mixed up !!!!

AND, MUCH MORE IMPORTANT: the one you told me you wanted, is not the one you are bidding on right now !!

Continued: yes, I checked it out, you must bid for the other one. You have to look for:

Salon-Wagen der Kaiserin + Gefolge Wagen der Herren. "Heizgas" is the high bidder on this right now !!

Tell me if you need any more assistance !!! It's my day off tomorrow ....

Yes, PLEASE!! I do! I need you to contact this seller for me and explain the one I want is the one in the picture I mentioned above (that I lost at 151 Euro!)... Let her know that I don't speak the best German, and that I am the one who had sent her an email stating that I thought the pictures were mixed up in the first place!, but that I only want "Salon-Wagen Der Kaiserin + Gefolge Wagen der Herren"... I hate to get stuck with the other one too, but If I have to I'll take both, and re-sell the double later...

I am now going to go and bid on that other item as I don't want to risk loosing it!! (Let her know I'm away on a business trip most of the next 3 days) and that I will try and check on the auction as best as I can, and pay her when I return on the 2nd! OR BETTER YET... ask her to cancel my bid on the "wrong item" and keep my bid on the correct one! That would be the correct thing for her to do, since the ebay rules don't allow for her to change the auction after bids have been made..

If you do this for me Johann, I really would appreciate it! Email me direct so we don't have to occupy this thread with this drama!

Thanks Bud!

Hello Sam,

I had nothing to do this minute, so I thought I might get back to this forum and write something stupid...

But of course with a serious background: have your Ebay packages arrived yet ?? After all, it's already about a month since you've won these auctions ... Please keep us informed !!!!

Now, coming back to the website you recommended: http://www.rentagerman.de . Two notes: Your favorite, M. Lindemann, has disappeared and I am suspicious that you might be behind that ???? And I also suspect that you (being a catholic, you once said, just as myself) rented that one German, my fellow Bavarian Joseph Ratzinger and turned him into the new Pope ??

Congratulations, good job !!!

The set arrived (as you know I won both items) so now I have a spare 2 cars... looks great, the quality of these items is a whole new level from the regular Marklin stuff... I display it with my brass locs. So far all of my ebay items have arrived from D, except the new E91 that I just won for 1 Gauge, but then I only won this yesterday!

Lindemann I'm sure is to cute to be on that sight.. too many dirty old guys will want her for other than "translation" if you know what I mean..

As for the Pope... I couldn't be any happier! Viva il Papa! Poor guy though, he thought he was going to live out his last years at home.. now he's stuck in Rome! (could be worse I guess).

Hi there guys,

I am totally confused. I have this set with the additional cars,
won on an auction run by Bill Ott, American site, Marklin dealer etc.
but my set is 2680. What gives?? Sander and John (5HRR) can you help?

Thanks,

Jeremy.

I haven't dared to bring this item to the islands yet.
ps. I believe he still has one left, and spesking from personal
experience, I got a couple of other itemms from him, 37500 and the
Amtrak Ice and they certainly appeared to be unused.
Jeremy.

1). If at first you don't succeed, bungee jumping mightn't be for you.
2). The early bird may get the worm, but it's the second rat that gets the cheese.

<br />Hi there guys,

I am totally confused. I have this set with the additional cars,
won on an auction run by Bill Ott, American site, Marklin dealer etc.
but my set is 2680. What gives?? Sander and John (5HRR) can you help?

Thanks,

Jeremy.

Hello,

will you also accept advice if my name is not Sander nor John ?? After all, "Hans" is "John" in German, at least ....

Please take note that it is a VERY serious offence anywhere in Bavaria to mix up the Bavarian and the Prussian Kings !!!! And the countries !!! And the people!! And the food!! And the weather ...

2680 is NOT the Prussian King's train, but the Bavarian King Ludwig II's train !!

Many regards,

Hans

I like M-track and my things that run on it were built between 1959 and 1972.

Hmm... Hans was quicker once again. He's right! But, I would consider the 2680 to be a real beauty too! wink
