I was wondering if anyone knew the actual gauge wire that is used in wiring locomotives? This is just the black or red wiring not the coils or reverse units?

I don't think there is a general answer to that. Older locos tend to have fatter wires than newer ones. Decoder wires are very thin, even the ones from the pickup shoe.
