I will be in Munich (München), Germany. I hope to have a little bit of time to visit Märklin dealers. In an earlier thread Anders suggested the following dealer in Munich:

Modellbahnprofis OHG
Feldmochinger Str. 35
D- 80992 München
Telefon: 089-1403031
Telefax: 089-1404845
http://www.modellbahnprofis.de/

I will try to visit this dealer, and I would also appreciate any other suggestions for dealers in Munich, Germany. I hope to hear from the good people of this forum on your recommendations.
Thanks.

Obletter is on the pedestrian walkway in front of the train station (about 2 blocks away, near McDonald's). They're a general toy store, but have a good selection of model RR stuff.

Last time I visited Conrad (www.conrad.de) which has some Maerklin stuff.

You can also try to loacte a dealer through the German Maerklin web page:

Hi cazart,

as mentioned above by mrmarklin, Obletter, at the end of the pedestrian area on the corner of Sonnenstrasse, may be a starting point. I am repeating this because from there you can literally take a tour of toy shops within walking distance.

Across the street in Sonnenstrasse, 100 yards down south, you find Fischer, an old and well equipped toy shop. Trains in the second floor.

Back to the original side of Sonnenstrasse, further down the street (another 300 yards I guess) is a tiny but nice shop:

Alexander's Modellbahnen KG, Sonnenstrasse 27, 80331 München, phone 089 / 59 86 68.

If you would like to see some second hand stuff, sixties, fifties, with the old boxes and all: SPIELART, a curious little shop full of tin plate cars, with a big corner of Märklin collectors stuff, is found in Müllerstrasse, which starts at the end of Sonnenstrasse, but I can't find the card where I have their exact house number and phone. If you need it, tell me again.

Back to where you started: between Obletter and the main station of Munich (the real one, not 1:87 ....lol) you find HERTIE a big department store. 5th floor: toys. They sometimes have very good special offers with "ripped" starter sets and all ....

Cheers,

Johann

Oh, I forgot:

and if you need some shops which are not close to the city center, there's a couple more.

Modelleisenbahnen BRAUN, Landsbergerstr. 317, 80687 München, 089 / 580 64 47. 10 minutes from the main station with a taxi, should be around 10 Euro. Or take the S-Bahn, Stop LAIM, then 5 minutes walk. Healthier anyway. Big shop, the shop windows alone will make you gasp.

At Ostbahnhof (which means: east station) there is also a big and useful shop. Contact me, I have to look up the detailed address.

And if you need some more ....

The FRIENDLIEST märklin dealer I've ever come across (wasn't so hard, they seem to be proud of their crudeness sometimes ....) has his shop in Landsberg, around 40 miles to the west.

A very good second hand shop is in Ulm, 80 miles to the west, and recently they started to sell new stuff as well, very competitive prices. They sell a lot on Ebay, under the name of juemul. Search for him !!! his shop address: Modellbahn 2.Hand 89073 Ulm Herrenkellergasse 16.

Maybe this was helpful !!

Hi. Thanks for the info. I also plan to be in Munich, but not until December for the Austellung. I'll try to fit some shopping time in. (Only plan one night there)

Hi Ron,

let's get into contact, when you're sure you're going and when. Would be fun to meet up at the exhibition ...

Hans: That would be great. According to our tentative plan (we haven't booked anything yet) my son and I plan to arrive in Munich in the morning of Decemeber 5 on a Nachtzug either from Berlin or Hamburg (depending on whether we decide to spend an extra day in Berlin or go see Miniatur Wunderland). I'll let you know when our plans firm up.

Johann,

Thanks for the recommendations, this helps a lot. I am interested in Digital Loks w/sound and C-track - as well as Digital Starter Sets. Also, I am still in the initial phases of getting back into model trains. Your characterisation of the places helps a lot.

Thanks again.

Ron:

it is not clear to me from your post, and also I haven't been around very long to know whether this topic has come up here somewhere before, but:

you will surely know that there is something like the Miniatur Wunderland in the process of being built in Berlin ?? They will open soon, I was told .... If not, I just wanted to let you know.

Cheers,

Johann

I have connected through Munich airport a few times and have really liked the Marklin dealer right in the airport. Prices seem fair, and you can get your VAT (mwst) refunded if you are headed out of the EU from Munich. I can find the details if you are interested.

I wasn't aware of the Berlin layout. Do you have a link or any information on it, perchance?

Hi Ron,

I just found that they have already opened. The place is called "Miniatur Welten Berlin" and can be seen via: www.loxx-berlin.de. But I am afraid they don't use our favorite brand obviously ... Never mind, if you google Miniatur Welten Berlin, you get some nice reviews from the opening, including pictures that are better than the ones on their own website.

Impressive. We will surely fit that into our plans, even if we decide to do Hamburg also.

Thanks Steen, I have gone through the Munich airport a few times, but I have not noticed a Dealer there (nor did I know to look - the Märklin DE website does not seem to have it listed).
Where in the Munich Airport is it? Also, do you know if there is a Dealer at the Frankfurt airport?
Thanks again.

It's been a while since I was there, but I remember it was in the first floor, all the way to the left I think, almost at the end (west side) of the terminal...

I remember once walking around the terminal and saw it there, bought a couple of things...
It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice...

Ira,

hello again and thanks for your interesting translations in another post (Kolbenstangenschutzrohr ....).

But: the shop in Munich airport is still there. Spielwaren Schmitt in Central Area of the airport, opposite the Post Office (Phone: 089 / 975-8 38 80). Open daily until 9 p.m. Problem might be that a second terminal has been opened, so that many passengers do not even get close to the Central Area, and it may also be a little hidden.

Regards,

Johann

Hello everyone.
I am currently in Munich for a month for work purposes (Garching, actually).
Since my German speaking abilities are close to -1000, could you please tell me of these dealers which are the ones that don't mind speaking English?
Danke.

Luís (aka: "guimas" ),

I wish I could speak more than a few words of German. However, all of the Dealers I visited in Munich spoke English well - none seemed bothered by it whatsoever.

I did not buy, because it was a quick trip and I was trying to get an impression mainly. See the comments at the top of this thread by Johann (aka: "Munich 1860" )- it is a good description of the dealers.

Also, you can go to the Märklin German website and get directions to dealers in any area of Munich that you happen to be. This info also seemed accurate.

Again, do not worry about the English. Now if I would have needed the German dealers to communicate in Spanish or in your case maybe Portuguese, then I think it would be a different story. Good Luck!
