It also might be the kind of oil you use.Märklin oil dries up pretty quick,so if they are sitting around,a drop oil for the motor,would not hurt. I use LaBelle 108 oil,instead of Mä oil,I also heard that Faller makes a fine oil also. I can check the specs to see what oil this is. Kevin!
