I'm running a nice MAXI-based period layout depicting the Western Front during WWI -- combining 1/32 railroading with 54 mm toy soldiers. Two questions: can MAXI locos be rigged for sound; and second, are there any Marklin Gauge One locos other than MAXI that can run on the shortest radius Marklin track, i.e., the 600 radius? Thanks.

Hi,

The DHG 500 (5719 et al) and the BR 80 (5720 et al) can also run on 600 mm radius. Also the ADLER does it. But around 1914 non of these prototypes existed.

If you run with a digital-control Maxi-locos can be upgraded with sound. Sound decoders which work with the Märklin-digital-system can be obtained e.g from ESU, but also from other manufacturers.

Regards

Markus

Markus, thanks for the response. You're right, of course, about the DHG and BR being very off-era. But that's good info anyway -- if I fool around with the stack a little, the BR might look like it belongs in1914 Germany. Thanks again.
