Back before ebay, when Marklin in Australia was expensive and I could not afford anything I came up with the idea of converting my 6 of manual turnouts to electric.

I used old aluminium sheet from signs, pipe saddles, small electric motor, nuts bolts and piano wire... anyhow this is the result. The work really well.

Very hard to see everything due to darkness, and no description as to how to convert from manual to auto, but well done.

Corin,

Same here (Ausipeet) but in hindsight you've done what had to be done in the days before ebay or indeed the internet.

I would like to know how big your layout is and what one can see it isn't large or the tracks you are showing are only a sample of what you had before, before ebay.
Looking at the current size of these tracks (layout) to be quite honest I wouldn't have gone through all the wiring and design and construction of an electric motor, one could have reached over and turn them manually.
an other option you had to mount them underneath aboard but if it was a carpet layout this would not have worked.

Thanks Guys.

Very sorry about the lighting and I know it is a bit of a tease, I will take more videos and detailed pictures when I set up the layout from the other thread in a few weeks. A few of the points have some surface corrosion so I will disassemble my home made switches and clean + take detail pictures and post them here at that time.

I have never had room for a proper permanent layout only carpet bahns, I do have a big box of track, including genuine electric turnouts, and crossovers, lots of curves and straight sections, bridges, more than enough to cover my whole lounge room floor, and three transformers to power it all. The 7 Locos pictured and a lot of rolling stock (well a lot for me, you guys have much nicer stuff)Blushing I ordered some more the other day off ebay, so hopefully I will have some more rolling stock and another loco for my birthday.

Last night I just set up a simple oval of 5100 just to test out my locos and make sure everything is working.

I thought about putting the motors under the board and this would be really easy to do in a fixed layout, but the solution I pictured works great on the big carpet bahn.

Thanks for the comments and I will try and make a better video and some pictures soon.
