I just installed my first threeway switch (24630). I intalled two 74490 turnout mechanisms and noticed there is no place to install the 74460 decoders. I have asked a couple of individuals and they do not have an answer. I run a 60214 controller. How do I get the turnout mechanisms to work with the controller?

Do you have the instructions that came with the three way point?

In there you will find that you cannot install a decoder. You have to go the 'old' way, by taking it through a k83.

That's why I don't bother to have three ways.

Anyone out there, if I'm wrong, please correct me.

You can get the 5235 decoder from Viessmann:

Or use a k83 (6083, 60830, or compatible). Those do not fit inside the trackbed, but are cheaper than a 5235 and can control two three-way turnouts or four two-way turnouts.

The Viessmann decoder will not work with all versions of the CS2. Send an email first to Viessmann to confirm.
I have one Viessmann fitted to the only three way I have and it works perfectly. Saves wiring etc.

One trap with the Viessman 3 way Decoder. the first address MUST be an odd number and it automatically takes the next number.

Thanks to all for their advice. I will follow through Viessmann and see what they say.

I have two 74490's installed. I have connected the two blue and single yellow wires from each 74490 to the K83 as shown in the instructions. The blue, yellow and red connectors for each 74490 are connected to the K83 on one side. Six connections. I have one red and one brown coming out of the K83 and connected to a section of track for power. The toggle switch is set to 3,5,7. I am seeing the threeway on my 60214, but when I touch the screen to change the switch position; nothing changes. It seems as if there is no power to the switch but I can see it on the controller. Any thoughts???

Thanks in advance.

So the addresses are 5 through 8. Have you tried 5 through 8 on your CS2? And set to MM protocol?
MM turnouts are like MM locos: you can register anything you want and your CS2 will show what you register. The CS2 gets no feedback from MM devices, so there'll never be an error message when the address is invalid.

The k83 will not work when red (centre rail, B) and brown (outer rail, 0) are swapped.

This must be checked for both connections (CS2 to track, track to k83).
The k83 should have 8 DIP switches, not 10. With 3, 5, and 7 on it's four ports respond to the addresses 5 through 8 (on the first keyboard).
You need two motors for a threeway switch, each motor needs three wires connected to the k83.
Connect both motors to different outputs of one k83, using six connectors on the same side of the k83.

Pictures might help if it doesn't work.

Tom
