In July, I visited the Miniland model train show in Heimstetten, near Munich.

Their HO gauge DC layout has a size of ca. 400 m², and shows a landscape from the North Sea to the Alps, with some really impressive mountains. There are harbours, coal mines, a military area, an airport, recreation areas, an amusement park, a soccer stadium, several towns, etc. This model train show originally started in the late 1970s in a small village called Wengen in the Allgäu region, but was moved to Munich a few years ago.

This layout doesn't many of the digital features of more recent layouts. So, not everything on this layout is still state-of-the-art, but it's a well-done and nicely detailed layout, and shows a lot of interesting scenes, such as a section of Lake Constance with the city of Lindau. There's also a change between night and day.

So, if you are at Munich, you shold take some time to go to Miniland. Just take S-Bahn line S2 to Erding (or Markt Schwaben), and get of at Heimstetten. There, you leave the platform onto a footpath running along the rail line, and a few minutes into western direction. Then, you turn left, into southern direction. You will come along a blue factory-like buiding on the right side of the street, which houses the model train show in the first floor. After your visit, you take a S2 service to Petershausen (or Dachau), and get off at one of the downtown station (such as Marienplatz, Karlsplatz, or Hauptbahnhof). The ride will take about 20 minutes.

Miniland also includes a small model train shop at the entrance, and a cafeteria.

Florian

Thanks Florian. Yes, it's not as big or modern as MiniaturWunderland in Hamburg but it is
really beautiful and definitely worth a visit while in the Munich area. It is quite well made.
Thanks, PeterThumpUp Smile
