I will be in Europe soon for business - mostly France, UK , and Spain. However, I will be in Frankfurt, Germany for 1 day. I would like recommendations for Märklin dealers in Frankfurt. I have already received one recommendation from Anders as follows:

Spielzeugkiste Häfner & Sawinski
Nachf. N. Sawinski e.K.
Kurt-Schumacher-Str. 31
D- 60311 Frankfurt
Telefon: 069-284682
Telefax: 069-289320

Any other suggestions for Märklin dealers in Frankfurt will be appreciated.

Also, I have flexibility about the location of the hotel. I will plan on staying at a hotel towards the centre of town (presumable close to more Dealers); instead of a hotel that is close to the Airport. Nevertheless, since I will be flying out from Frankfurt Airport, I would also be interested in Dealers that are close to the Airport.

Anyway, I would appreciate all recommendations.
Thanks.

Hi Arturo,

You will find that the first recomendation (Spielzeugkiste) is a very fine shop. I have been dealing with them for some three years and they have never let me down[^]

Alberto,
Thanks for the help. I will try to visit a few of these that are nearby each other. I appreciate this very much.

Chris,
Thanks for the reference on the 1st location. Although, I have the opportunity to travel to Germany a few times a year, I have never before visited any Dealers there, so I do not have direct experience. It is very good for me to know that you have good dealings with this Dealer.

Forgive my ignorance, but I assume that Malta is now part of the EU, and as such, you are probably not exempt from the Germany/EU VAT? I understand that for residents outside of the EU, as you depart Germany/EU, you can claim back the VAT (16%), that German Dealers must charge for sales in Germany. Anyway, just curious, if you had experience with that process.

Thanks again to both of you for your help!

Gone are those days[:(!] before I used to order items that I wanted by e-mail and when I had so many items I used to collect them myself and have a short holiday. But as from the 1st May 2004 Malta has joined the EU So now I have the items sent to me by mail. I still save alot of cash so that works out for me too.biggrin

cazart- Yes you can claim back the VAT at the airport before you return. I haven't done it though so I can't tell you exactly how it goes.

Allow yourself at least a hour to process paperwork at the airport. It has taken much longer on occasion.

I have. It's no big deal. You get the paperwork from the store where you buy the item(s) and take it to the customs office at the airport (after you've gone through passport control). You have to have the items with you to show the customs officer (hence they must be in your carry-on). (I have never had to show them, but just in case...they say you have to have them with you). I've never had to wait more than one person.
Then you have the option of sending the paperwork back to the store for a refund or going to the VAT service desk in the airport and paying them a small percentage (I don't recall how much) to get your money right away.

Thanks everyone for your input. I am off for Europe, depending on my schedule I probably will have the chance to see a dealer or two in Frankfurt - I am looking forward to it. Anyway, I will report back when I return. Also, any other last minute tips are appreciated - I am able to access this forum on the road - just not as frequently.
Thanks again.
