Thanks John. There was a post about this a while back. The mid station, where up and down trains cross, used to have the last manually operated signals on the whole Norwegian railway network.

A colleague of mine has just returned from a 1 week long mini cruize from Rotterdam to Norway and back on a vessel operated by the Holland America Line.
He travelled on the Flam railway offered as an optional excursion.
He is not a train man,he was told that the train has 5 braking systems(?).
He was told the coaches have special steel wheels, there would be text on the coaches to reflect that(?).

Well,in respect of the brakes i can imagine the loco has some special features.
About the wheels of the coaches:perhaps special steel has been used to ensure they keep in one piece?

Who is able to throw some light on this?
Wikipedia has a full story about the Flam railway but i have not found comments on the wheels of the coaches.

Cheers,
Paul.

P.S.: my colleague had a wonderful time on board!

Paul,

I guess this is the Wikipedia article you referred to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fl%C3%A5m_Line

For the benefit of the English speaking readers I can point out that the English article is the most complete one of the ones I looked at (Swedish, Norwegian [both Bokmål and Nynorsk], German, French and Dutch).

I've tried to find Scandinavian language information on wheels etc. for Flåmsbana but not found anything. So I guess we have to pass that question to a Norwegian forum member.

Nice video!
A tip:search at Youtube after train routes in Norway via train cabinet.

I have made a couple of pages about the Flåm railway and the train crossing at the middle station, Berekvam.

See http://www.saebonet.com/Svein/Nor/Site/Roundtrip_2.htm
and http://www.saebonet.com/Svein/Tog/Sites/Misc/Berekvam.htm

Or visit http://www.saebonet.com/, select "From the big world" in the left menu, "A train and boat round trip" and "Last flag station in Norway"

Good luck
Best regards Svein, Norway

The Flåm railway trip was sent Minute by minute on our national TV a couple of years ago.

Torrent files, in 720p and 1080p in 2D and 1080p in 3D is downloadable from our national TV company, NRK1.
(I have not tested from abroad)

see http://nrkbeta.no/2010/09/03/la...d-flaamsbana-i-2d-og-3d/
Scroll down the page and you will find the links.
A YouTube version in 720p is also available.

A 1920p version can be found here: http://video.nrkbeta.no/torrents/
Scroll down the page to you find "Flamsbanen.hele.turen...."
Best regards Svein, Norway
