Greatings from Africa

Those of you who own one of these locomotives (p/n 40209 or 40211); I would like your opinion please. Are you impressed with this loco, comparing it to your other BRAWA steam locomotive? Will you buy it again, if you had to do it again?

Thanks
Marius

A great engine.

But see the other thread on zincpest and the Brawa BR 06. They had a problem with the first runs. The problem is fixed and I think the numbers you are talking about are the new ones. Just make sure you don't buy the original black run.

On the positive they acknowledged the problem. They sent me a new body within a week when I sent them a note. Great service.

[Marius, my friend Peter had one out of the box that ran on a Marklin 3 rail system & specifically C-Track. The loco derailed all the time namely on complex points like double slips, three way points & specifically curved points. This would occur in reverse pushing lets say 4 to 5 carriages. In forward motion it would be alright but slowly over the points. In my opinion a fiddly loco. Not sure if the problem was specific to that loco but he sold it shortly after he bought it. Loco looks good. This was just my observation of this loco & its running characteristics.

Dave, I think I considered at one stage buying Peter's loco, but had too many other models to get at the time.

I did eventually buy one, it's a Brawa 40207, red streamlined Br06, made specifically for 3 rail digital AC running. Pictures of it are in the 2011 locos thread. Like Dave says, it is a bit fiddly. It ran most of the way around the M track part of my layout, derailing only on one set of curved points (which I have a replacement for). That included some double slip switches. One thing I found is that some of the gear rods (the smaller one above the main rod) fell off when running the loco. Luckily I did notice it, and managed to retrieve the rods.

Hi Dave & David

Thanks you for your honest feedback guys. ThumpUp This propensity to derail is exactly why I ask for opinions from existing owners, before I make my purchase decision.

I have a few BRAWA locomotive, electrics, diesels, rail cars and one steam loco. They all operate well on my C-track layout EXCEPT for the steam loco. This is a S2/6 from the Bavarian State Railway (p/n 40257) and since day one this loco has been problematic, derailing on turnouts.

I tried in vain to resolve the derailing issue and eventually formed an idea that the BRAWA steam loco models maybe too intolerant of Marklin C-track, as Dave states “fiddly”. I have some thinking to do before I make my final decision.

Regards

Marius
