Hello all,

There must have been this kind of questions before, but here is one more...

So list only five of your favourite Märklin locomotive models or locomotive types in the order from 1-5. You can also list what of these you have or want. I begin with my favourites:

1. SBB crocodiles Ce 6/8 and Be 6/8 (I have 3015, 3056, 3756, 36159 and 39565)

2. SBB Ae 6/6 (I have 3 x 3050 and soon an MFX digital one from 29680)

3. Nohab's (I have 3066, 2 x 3067, 2 x 3068, 3133, 3134, 2 x 3137 and 2 x 3143)

4. Swedish SJ 3030 (I have one 1960's model)

5. DB V200 diesels and like these (I have 6 x 3021, one 3081 blue-beige and one V221 diesel)

There is ofcourse many other nice Märklin locomotives, like many beautiful steamers. But these that I listed have "that something".

If I could only have locomotives from one country, then I would nowadays choose Switzerland, second choice Deutchland, third Norway, fourth Sweden and fifth France.

Edit October 2012: I have to say that I also like VERY much my 37967 Gt 2x 4/4 Mallet green/black One-time series. This is definitely my favourite steam locomotive and it could be anywhere in this top 5 list. But I dont want to take any of these wonderful locomotives away from my top 5 list, so this can be mentioned as an extra favourite...

Hi Janne

you start with the difficult questions then LOL

My top 5 are;

1. E44 as it was my first one from 1957 BigGrin
UserPostedImage

2. BR103 as they are very well designed and the shape appeals to me. I have two in my collection BigGrin
UserPostedImage

3. BR141 as this was my 1st lok I bought new when I was 14 years old.BigGrin
UserPostedImage

4. Krokodil - as it took me until 1995 to be able to justify buying one. I have the brown 3352 version
UserPostedImage

5. and finally the Ae6/6 as again I think it is a well designed lok and looks good.BigGrin
UserPostedImage

If I had to choose just one country then I would have to have all DB loksThumpUp

Thanks to all from the answers! I thought that it would be good to list just five of the favourites. This way you have to choose a bit from all these nice Märklin locomotives. It would be maybe easier to decide five of no favourite locomotives than favourites (as there are so many nice ones), but then some other forum members could feel bad if they like or own those locomotives. So let's just list the top 5 favourites and keep the no favourites in our own mind... =)

Hi,

For the moment, for playability, and definitely not in order of merit:

All are digital-
1 - Wuerttemberg C eg. 37115
2 - Wuerttemberg BR75 tank eg. 34132
3 - Wuerttemberg K eg. 37054
4 - Decapods BR50, 52 and such
5 - Vt137 eg. 37774

And can I make special mention please, of BR18.x 3317 into which I have inserted the latest Marklin motor and digital components, and it runs like a dream. It is the "oldest" M loco I have.

I like the driving technology on all these. It probably means I also like all my Marklin engines.
regards
Kimball
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.

To add to the heap:

1.) V60 (and derivatives), especially 3141 and 3065. 3141 was my first locomotive, my explain this odd placement.
2.) BR03 (3085)
3.) BR86 (3096) - Good multi-purpose tank
4.) Wuert Lady C (still don't have one!)
5.) Santa Fe F7s

Honorable mention goes to 3072 (V100) for being able to pull so much relative to size and weight.

I think I agree with most:

1. Crokodiles (have 39560 and 39562 and will get the next green one BigGrin ) + also a german crok (E194 3322) and the seetal crok (37522)
2. I also love the other swiss old-timer: the Ae 3/6 (have 3151, 3456 and 37513)
3. Big Boy!!!!
4. also love the K.W.St.E. Class K (37059) and that great blue color! One of my faves!
5. K.Bay.Sts.B. Gt4/4 (37964). Have a passion for tender locomotives and this mallet beats them all!
6. all others... especially Ae 6/6, the new Re 6/6 and 620, the Vt 11.5 (what a great train!) .. darn.. so many models and so little time!

1 - BR 39 - penultimate design of a steamer model with SDS, excellent drive qualities and better design details vs BR01 generations
2 - BR 05-003 - before there was the new 39, there was the 05!
3 - BR 45 - you'll see many lines in the current steamers are derived from this 2002 design
4 - BR 141 (late model 39412/3) - arguably the best complete package for the new generation of e-loks
5 - Taurus - slightly undervalued, and has a number of flaws, but still an attractive good looker

Wildcard:
BR 218 diesel - the original version in 2007 was ahead of its time!
Now collecting C-Sine models.

2: The Decapods BR 44, BR 50, BR 85
3: EMD F7's
4: V 200, 221
5: E 03, 103

This was a difficult question. There are so many I like but here they are:

1. Re 460 - Now this design is just sexy no matter what paint job it has even tough I prefer the red ones.
2. Re 4/4 II - Very nicely designed loco and yet quite compact. Looks good pulling anything.
3. Alco PA-1 - This is just big and powerful. It makes the list mostly because of nostalgic reasons.
4. Ce 6/8 - It has a lot of external details and many on the roof in particular which makes it very appealing to look at.
5. Taurus - It has a modern streamlined yet somehow classical design. I also like the sound it makes when accelerating.

I know, all over the place! If this list would have allowed for ten locos this post would have taken an hour to write. There are too many choices! Smile

Great topic!!! I will list mine in 2 ways- by tooling/prototype, and by Marklin part number as the list changes accordingly :)

Prototype:

1: SBB Crocodile
2: GG1
3: F7
4: RE 460
5: RE 10/10 (sneaking in two locos here BigGrin )

Marklin:

1: 3015
2: Tuscan GG1
3: 3422 German Crocodile
4: Red RE 460
5: Ae 8/14

This is today, but my list changes constantly depending on the train mood I'm in!

2. 3029 Class ? switcher
3. 3000 Class 89
4. 3021 V200
5. 2870 Historic Express Train of 1938 - D101 electric locomotive of the SJ with three wooden open platform cars

#2, #3 & #4 were my first loco's as a child, closely followed by #1 (early teens), the fifth is a tough one as I now have so many loco's to choose from, but the 2870 is stunning.

I'd hate to rain on the parade, but I just cannot process all the numbers that quickly.
Indulge me with a photo of your "Fav Five" lined up and added your posts.
That would really get me thinking about why they are your favs, without having to research each number to figure out which one they are.
Am I asking too much?

For me of the ones I have are... and I would say that tomorrow that may change like the weather.

Br 96
Br 17
E 19
Br 78
Br 86

I would say if it were a top 10 most of you wouldn't be satisfied with your choice because there will always be one more you could add to the list.

That's why I haven't bothered as yet to contribute to this thread, the question is just too hard to answer!

Great topic, but it appears I look at this a little differently. Smile

Hi all,

Here's the last 5 Märklin Set's I've bought, which makes them my 5 favourite Loco's.

Hi All,
Seeing I started back in the "hobby" seven years ago I had a choice of everything made at the time and a 2004 catalogue, plus access to the Lokshop site that was recommended to me by an AMC member.
I bought a "Mega":starter set with an MS 1 Controller and that and the tracks are all I have left of it,. I totally dissed the Loks as they were not perfect. but....

I absolutely had to have an E103, and with the remote controlled pantographs. A search of the web found a few for sale, best deal, from a Marklin Dealer, was at MMM in Florida so I ordered it March 2005. Also I had the 2003 catalogue with the Class 45 in it, the next purchase from a German Ebay dealer. So my list, almost in order of aquisition, the first four sort of, anyway...... Scared BigGrin

39579 E103

37450 Class 45

37605 VT 11.5, that was preceeded by the VT601 37606 Gas Turbine, version, bought from the same German ebay dealer as the '45, but a year later bought the 37605 on ebay & I prefer it. The sounds and look are awsome, and its got ball bearing armatures Sneaky BigGrin ThumpUp

39833 BR 185 DHL Taurus, (bought it from the shop opposite the old Marklin Museum after the '05 Treff)

39642 Class 64 because I think it does every thing pefectly, looks, goes and sounds great, and I've "used" (played with) it more than any other of my Dampfloks and will continue to do so on my small layout. Only fault; the instructions Confused don't remove the handrails from the body when, when removing it to install a smoke unit, as suggested, you'll only wreck them Scared Just sit the body back on the chasis and gently move the handrails into their sockets in the chassis with tweezers, lifting the body very slightly to help ease them in, and then the body sits down perfectly, and your handrails are still all perfect as well Smile ThumpUp A very fiddly job, but just dont force anything Scared

My 39980 Rail Bus would have to be next, my most played with model, but then I'm not allowed a sixth chioce Blushing Sneaky sorry BigGrin

Hello,

I have multiple copies of my favorite Märklin models. I have them in the tradional analog versions, as well as newer digital ones (except for BR E69 which are all digital). So I'm going list my favorites by class and count rather than part number Smile

BR 103 (4)
BR E69 (3)
Br 18.4 (3)
BR 44 (2)
BR 81 (3)

Bye,
Rob

Very difficult question!

I don't have any favourite article numbers, but judging from the number of locomotices I have:

Nohab diesels, example NSB Di3
Big tender locomotives, example Br01, 03, 44, 50, 52
Swiss Crocodiles, example Ce 6/8
Big tank engines, example Br85, 96
Swiss Ae 3/6

But the list should have been much longer.
Best regards Svein, Norway
