Yet another case of regular traffic not being informed/warned about a worktrain on the tracks, possibly caused by the fact that the worktrain was not having automatic train detection fitted?
Do recall some time back same thing happened on the highspeed gliding train testtrack in Germany,a closed loop, and a workstrain on the loop doing its duty.
Someone gave the gliding train the go ahead, not understanding the worktrain was still there.
When the signals are not there to take control, human error comes in.
In Holland there is no automatic train protection below 40 km/h,so drivers still need to use their own eyes to judge a potential hazardous situation.
Yesterday only, two container blocktrains collided head on in the Maasvlakte area of the greater Rotterdam port area, with a number of containercars derailed and beside the tracks, both drivers slightly injured, track still blocked today, problem is getting a recovery crane there, with the electric overhead wires in place.

I am sorry to hear about the casualties, may they rest in peace.

The regular train was were it should be.
The worktrain was at the wrong place - they are investigating why it was there at that time. It's a mechanical digger that can run on streets and on rails and the workplace was a few kilometres away.
This digger can enter the track anywhere - and has no security system installed.

Tom

Thanks, Tom. That was interesting to learn. One would think that the supervisor at the work train would
have to get approval from a DB traffic manager before he entered the equipment onto the tracks?
