Hello,

I got today my first locoomotive that is equipped with ESU Loksound V3.5. It is an Nohab and has very nice sounds. I would like to adjust the volume a bit louder, but it can not be adjusted with CS 2 60214 locomotive settings page. I introduced this one to my CS as a DCC decoder and got all the functions available that there should be.

Thanks in advance!

Janne

Hi, Janne!

Volume is controlled with CV 63, value range 0 through 64 with a default value of 64 - normally you cannot make it louder than the factory setting.
CV 63 can be changed from the CV screen of the CS2.

Tom

If you have room in the loco replace the current speaker with a 28mm speaker you will hear the sound louder and clearer.

Yes an bigger speaker could be an good choice maybe. I just translated the german text to english from this locomotives advertisement. There is actually an function (F8) for four different volume levels! Yesterday I checked this locomotives CV list and there was not an CV 63 so I added it there. I really hope that I did not mess with this four level sound level adjustment when adding that CV 63. Or if I did can it (CV 63) then be deleted to get back to original? I maybe pushed yesterday many times that F8 function button and it was the reason why the sound level was first low with CS and then maybe I pushed F8 one or more times without motor sound on. Then tried the locomotive with my trusted 6021 Control Unit and motor sounds was (surprise, surprise LOL ) louder... Then when finally I added that CV 63 and tried with CS the sound level was high enough.

Here is an complete list of this Nohab ESU LokSound V3.5 properties that the seller listed (translated with Google translator):

"With LokSound V3.5 of ESU (16 Mbps). Very good condition, in original packaging.

5-Star high-efficiency propulsion, by Märklin

F0 Light

F1 Diesel Sound Nohab

F2 Horn

F3 short horn

F4 station announcement

F5 conductor's whistle

F6 acceleration and deceleration

F7 Double-A light

F8 volume (4 levels)"

But for my surprise it actually gives even more sounds with some of the extra function buttons with CS 2 (some of these F9 - F12 if I remember right). I think that there should not be that CV 63 in the list for the reason that with F8 function button the sound level can be adjusted and maybe CV 63 with an value of something "over rides" that adjustment maybe? I will test it when I get to home today and if adjustment with F8 works with four different sound levels I will leave that CV 63 to the list and if it dont work with F8 then I will take it away from the CV list (CV 63).

Is this right way to do it?

Thanks!

Märklin only add a handful of CVs to the list - same list for all decoders.
You can play with F8 to see if makes a difference.

I'd prefer to read the German text, not the Google translation.

Did he really write "16 Mbps"? Nice for a DSL line, but nonsense for a sound decoder ...

I didn't know this LokSound feature yet, but you can set a key for "Mute / Volume Control" - the LokSound manual does not explain what it does. If there are four levels, then clicking this function a few times to see how sound changes should get you the maximum volume.
I haven't tried "Mute / Volume Control" yet. It seems by activating F8 you will mute the sound. By "double clicking" F8 you should cycle through the four volume settings.

Beside CV 63, there also are CV 121 (volume of horn), CV 122 (volume of bell), and CV 123 (volume of auxiliary sound effects). Range is always 1 through 64.
So to get maximum volume, make sure CVs 63 and 123 are set to 64.

CVs 190 and 193 should contain value 64, that's what activates "Mute / Volume Control". You can read those CVs with your CS2.
The get rid of Volume Control, set both CVs to 0.

Thanks Tom,

I will test these today. Do I have to add these CV 121, CV 122, CV 123, CV 190 and CV 193 to the CV list manually or can it be read from my locomotive decoder with some button? Sorry I am a bit newbie with these...

Test is done and volume control with F8 works (4 level). I also added those CV's and adjusted volume levels to 64. Now there is enough volume. Even than there was in the advertisement that F4 is only station announcement the thruth is a combo of station announcement + at the end of it the conductor's whistle. F5 has a sound of doors closing or something like that. F9 has a sound of some type of horn, but different than those F2 (Horn) and F3 (Short horn). That F9 horn has different sound and it's volume level is much lower than the other sounds. Even when I adjusted all volume levels to 64 it did not affect to this one. F10 has some sort of diesel engine starting or lubricating sound.

I have to say thanks from all help! This is an really nice locomotive and I can use this one with all of my different Nohab bodies. 3066 SNCB, 3067 brown DSB, 3067 red-black DSB, 3068 NSB, 3133 SNCB, 3134 CFL, 3137 NSB and 3143 NSB.

Cheers from Finland,

Janne
