I have just today bought a 3441 Delta Lok (BR143 AEG) and I am now considering how I can convert it to digital.
She is equipped with a 6090 decoder and have a high efficiency propulsion (3pole Trommel Kollektor).
I wonder if any of the following two options would help me in the tuning of the loc to digital:
1. Replace the 6090 decoder with the decoder taken out the other day from a 36848 Hobby series Lok. Is this feasible?
2. Replace the 6090 decoder with a 60760 decoder from the new series of decoders of M*.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

A good solution, less Gold required, would be a ESU Permanent Magnet and ESU lokpilot decoder.
If the armature is in good condition do not change it for a 5 pole one.

Hi Simeon,

Not quite sure of where you are on this.

If the 3441 is a delta loco then it should have a 6603x decoder, not a 6090. If it is indeed equipped with a 6090 decoder and 5 pole motor then someone has saved you the trouble of converting it. The 6090 conversion is a digital high efficiency conversion in itself, and should have adjustable acceleration and braking delay and adjustable maximum speed by using the two little potentiometers on the decoder. No digital functions are available except for the lights.

In my opinion the 6090 gives much better speed control than the 60760, so I would not bother to change it, but you can do so if you wish, as both decoders are intended for the same motor. The Hobby decoder, on the other hand, is optimised for the "can" motor fitted in the hobby locos, so you might not get good running characteristics.

Nev and Ray,

Thanks for the feedback. I run the 3441 yesterday in one HMC's members layout with a 6021 and it run very well. I was surprised to see that the loc has also red lights on the back side.
Today I run it on my layout (with CS2) and it went also Ok! The brightness of the lights is extremely good when the loc starts moving and her running characteristics are good. I had her pull three molten iron cargo waggons and she did ok on my steep inclines.
Thus I just decided to keep it as it is and not to convert it. It is a great looking loc and I am very satisfied with her running characteristics too!!! I am very glad for my choice. From now on I will be looking more into older, full metal locs even if they are Delta/Digital equipped.
