Hi Everyone,
I just joined the forum, so this is my very first post:
I am building a HO Steel Mill layout (Walthers Blast Furnace,Rolling Mill and Coke ovens)incorporating some harbor activities (unloading coal or ore ships).
Are there any mill specific layout suggestions ? My area is E- shaped; about 18ft along a wall
Thanks

Werner R

Hello Werner and welcome to this great forum!

Wow! 18 ft! What luxury! Have a look here:

The plans therein are for N scale, but you might be able to combine and adapt.

Hi Werner!

Welcome to the forum! Yesterday I made a test with my blast furnace and rolling mill. I don´t have the coke oven and don´t plan on having it. But I consider buying the blower engine house for the blast furnace.

If you look on the last page in my thread you´ll see what I did. This also includes the use of routes and the shuttle train function in the CS. The link to my thread is in my signature. Hope you can get something inspiring from there.

Greetings,
Best wishes with the construction. I can't wait to see the progress. In the mean time, this is all I can add:

Werner,

I like the prototypical layout, but it seems to me there is no way to run the trains in a loop. I may be wrong. You may not be concerned about this, but given the design it would be pretty easy to accommodate one continuous loop that would allow trains to run unattended without any programming. Just my observation. Of course I run analog, so I an inclined to think this way. Otherwise looks like lots of action and opportunity to play.

Brandon,

you do have a point- I could have a "highline" run across the harbor scene and connect to the right side of the layout.
Not bad....

Hi Werner, I love the trackplan. The only thing I would add would be on the left side of layout. I would
have a track going underground to allow thru running. I know it's prototypical this way though.
