Hello Kelly,

This set is most likely from 1945 and happened to include an instruction manual from 1939 which was very common this these sets.

Check out this article I wrote which discusses Marklin during WWII and some of the SK 851/4 PX sets which were sold:

Feel free to email me or post questions here about your set. As for valuing the set it is hard to say without photos.

Best regards,

Paul

Kelly,
The good news is that your Marklin items are all collectors pieces. The bad news is that they are unboxed and in "fair" condition. The coaches were prone to loosing their roof vents and bogie disintergration and cracked wheels. The old early sk 800s were prone to the dreaded zincpest which causes cracking and disintegration. You would be very lucky to have very early items as most come from the 40's and early 50's. Assuming that the items are complete and functional one could guess the carriages are worth £15 - £40 each. The engine if complete with no zincpest or metal fatigue and in working order could be worth £100 - £300. Photos would be helpful to give a better estimate. You could search on worldwide ebay for some photos and prices which vary from the reasonable to the ridulous.

Regards

When you are composing a message, look at the left side of your screen, you should see two check boxes...
"Watch this topic and receive notifications...."
"Attach files to this post?"

Attach files is just what it says, you put a tick in there and when you 'Post' your message you will be taken to a further window to select and upload images from your hard drive. Normally just browse to the folder containing the images, select the one you want and click 'upload'.

Be aware that if the images are too large then they will not display in your message, but they will still be saved and a link to download them will be included instead. Perhaps try with just one and see if it works.

Being a new user your account may not yet have the facility enabled (spam and security protection), or if you find this too hard to do, your other option is to place the images on a free photo hosting site such as 'photobucket' (link), or any of many others you might prefer.

Then just include a link to the images in your message. Photos tell us much and will enable some of us here to guide you better.

Generally, the better the condition of the items, the better the value. Original boxes, instructions etc can add considerably to the value.

Selling as a whole is convenient but may not get the best price compared to selling individually, unless of course it is an original starter set, complete with it's large box, then it really should stay together. Even if it does not have the original box, if all the items were purchased at the same time then it may be the contents of a starter set and many people (like myself) prefer to get them in their entirety.

Original vintage boxes come up from time to time and some collectors enjoy recreating the set as it originally was. Something like my attached image below....

Hope this helps

Steve
