Anyone know what the difference is (if any) between turnout mechs 74491 and 74492 (92 is listed under MyWorld)?
Just wondering if the 92 is "superior" technically, or is it only for use in MyWorld series?

From the Marklin product database:

74491
This is a kit for converting C Track turnouts to electric and digital operation. It has a double solenoid mechanism with end shut-off contacts. It can be operated from an accessory controller or by means of a digital decoder. A feedback function is possible with the 7271/72710 accessory controllers. This electric mechanism can be installed and connected on turnouts very easily without special tools. The mechanism sits hidden in the roadbed; below-baseboard mounting is not required. It is encapsulated against dirt and is protected against overloads with the end shut-off contacts. The mechanism can be controlled by means of a normal accessory controller, an accessory controller with a feedback function, or a digital decoder. The hand lever can be left on the turnout for manual control.

This is a kit for converting C Track turnouts. It has a double solenoid mechanism with end shut-off contacts. It can be operated from a 72752 turnout control box with a feedback function or from a turnout installation Decoder1. This electric mechanism can be installed and connected on turnouts very easily without special tools. The mechanism sits hidden in the roadbed; below-baseboard mounting is not required. I can't figure out what the difference is, as they both seem to have the Feedback function. Could the difference be in the plugs included?

Joe & Ray,

they had quite a bit of trouble with these turnouts.
over the period they have fine tuned the mechanism as previous turnouts micro switch arced over a period of time and than stopped working.

thanx Ray and John - I know all about those earlier mechs - 1 failed from my starter set earlier this year, and LOKSHOP speedily replaced it with another 90 series. But hey, after 5 months this one failed again! This time M came to the rescue and have sent me not one, but two newer 91 series as replacements, and a letter of apology to boot.
I think I will just stick with ordering the 91 series for now.
thanks guys, Joe

Yep, that's the point: 74492 includes new cables for easy plug'n'play (also requires new control boxes).

74490 was the troublesome mechanism - hope that both 74491 and 74492 have those problems solved.
Regards
Tom

I received an email reply from Ton Catherall at Marklin.

The plug on the end of the cable should be the only difference
74491 is Digital and meant to plug into the decoder with the micro plug
74492 is My World and run by a 72710 control box which means the wires are bare ready for round plugs
Tom

This should answer the question.
