Hello to your great train community !

I have recently dig up my Marklin train: model - Ho 2905 - DB 89 006

2905

But i have two great issues in order to make it factional again...

First of all, i lost the middle foil which makes the electrical contact to the rails.
As you can see here this is the spare part No 26, according to an almost the same model manual. But also this one is unavailable...

Do you know where can i found one or shall i create one by myself ?

2905

Secondly i have used the power supply to make it work independently but when i touch the 2 wires it can only go backwards...
Do you know why this is happening ?

2905

Hello Harlock,

Welcome to the forum BigGrin

1) The part you're looking for is referenced with number 7185.
You can find it at your local dealer, or at lokshop.de or modellbahnshop-lippe.com with additional cost for delivery.

2) about the backwards move, did you try to reverse the direction ? (a small pulse below speed "0" on the transformer knob) ?

Cheers
Fabrice

Welcome aboard Harlock,

Funny that the retaining screw is there but not the shoe, you (or someone) must have removed it sometime but put the screw back? You don't have the shoe lying around somewhere?

Fabrice is correct about the part and the reverse. All you need to do is remove the screw, place the pickup shoe in position and screw it on - don't over-tighten, just finger-tight and a little extra to be sure it does not fall out. It would be quite difficult to make one from scratch, a replacement new one would be just a few Euro's. Perhaps one of our other Greece members has a spare they could sell you if you do not have a dealer nearby.

As for the reverse, you need to turn the speed control back to the '0' position, then give it a little more movement backward, you will feel spring resistance. This sends a higher voltage 'pulse' to the Loco to activate the reverse relay - you need power to the loco while doing this of course.

Do you intended to start building a layout?, the longest journey starts with the first small step you know BigGrin

Cheers

Greetings and welcome,

Plus, may I add, you take great pictures!!

Great idea to add that slightly off white paper behind the locomotive, it really brings out the detail and contrast.

Question: Have you taken out the screw on the top of the locomotive, the one in the center of the steam 'dome'? If so, then how does it look inside? To get it running at peak performance you'll need to add a drop, only one drop, of hi-grade lubricant, also found at a local hobby shop for model trains, to the little oil recepticles on both sides of the central metal motor housing. (Don't use olive oil...it will gum up the entire works)

Regards,
Paul

I think that this version of br89 have to the right side of the loco a hand lever for reversing the loco.Try with this.

First of all, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of you, for your great support advises and welcome messages !!BigGrin

@French_Fabrice

1) I will buy this spare part from one of the shops you recommend to me. Thank you very much!!

2) I didn’t try the reverse before, but now I am trying to go below “0” the train do not have a small pulse, on the contrary, it goes really fast!
Do you think that the transformer is not having the correct contact with the reverse? Shall I try that manually (open the transformer)?

@cookee_nz

“Funny that the retaining screw is there but not the shoe”
Do you mean this one ?

2905

I still have it but I remove it on purpose to get more clear photo. BigGrin

I also have one other question. Look the back of the voltage transformer at this picture :
2905
Do you know where the wires should be put in order to have the correct performance ? What difference does it make?

Regarding the backwards movement, I am still trying… I will let you know if I achieve it… thank you also for your helpful advises.

“Do you intended to start building a layout?, the longest journey starts with the first small step you know”

Why not, I find this hobby fascinating and I am seriously thinking about it !

Thank you for this advice! I haven’t opened the train, this how I found it after long years, so I don’t have any clue about inside condition.
Do you know the screw’s ref number or how I may find out?

*Also your advice for the oil drop is well noticed!

You mean that this "lever" is placed, on the train? Unfortunately, I cannot find anything…

@Ian555

Thank you very much BigGrin

UPDATE !

Can you please inform me if i will need the screw No 27, Ref: E756100 according to this draw ?

Is it made by some special material or something ? Because it cost around 15 Euro !

Hello Harlock

The serial number (8 digits, starts with "00", of your locomotive indicates that it was produced in 1990.
The hand shifting lever, which used to be on the RH side over the front wheel, was abandoned in 1968.

The missing part you need your locomotive, often reffered to as a pick-up shoe, looks like this:
UserPostedImage
The photo shows a shorter version than the one you need.
The brown part in your photo is the base of the pick-up shoe, one of the four parts the shoe is made of.
