Hi all,

I'm investigating on using reed switches on my K tracks layout.

As I'm newbie on this topicConfused , I prefer asking feedback to experienced people.

-Pros ?
-Cons ?
-Märklin items (quite expensive!) or standard electronic parts ?
-Magnets ?
-Bouncing effects ?
etc.

As usual, your inputs will be greatly appreciated Love

Cheers
Fabrice

Fabrice,

I have used Marklin reeds on M Track, not K Track and so my experience may not be helpful. I first tried building my own reeds - from parts. I purchased quite a few reeds and at minimal cost. I had some success on my test tracks but I could not get them to register on the S88. I gave up and bought the Marklin reeds. Marklin reeds are bulker (reed enclosed in a plastic case) and they snap in between the two rails. Also, a screw hole is provided to secure to the track (board under the track). This provides precise fitting. Locs and any other slider go over the reed with no problem - though some vibration occurs. No derailments result. I have not had any problems. Do a search here (Reeds or S-88) and you should find other ides - suppliers of reeds, the type to buy and things to be aware of.

Regards,

Harvey
