I have a couple of questions to those of you who build or collect US models.

Assuming that Märklin launched models of for instance the US TRAXX loks, would you buy it/them?

The background for this question is that I have Amtrak X995 (Märklin 83341) and the reason for getting it was that it is really SJ Rc4 1166. I was not sure what coaches I would use with it. For a while I thought of using the 43600 set, but I still knew that wouldn't be correct since the X995 (and later AEM7) was used on the North East corridor, the Washington - New York - Baltimore line, with Amcoaches and to my knowledge the types included in Mä 43600 are not used on this line. So a couple of years later I was in a hardware store in Berkeley, CA, with an MRR department in the basement and there I found some Walters Amtrak coaches that are more suitable for the X995, even though the liveries may not be 100% correct. (I've made very limited tests with them, but I assume I'll have to do some modifications to them to work properly on Märklin C-track R1).

So I would probably not buy a US TRAXX, since it would also entail trying to find some NJ commuter train coaches.

Would you reason the same way and only buy it if you can get suitable coaches?

Does anybody know if there are suitable coaches on the market?

I would buy these locos. I saw the engines in NY some time ago and wondered if they launch them one day. With a little modification it should be possible for Märklin to offer the TRAXX. But is there a market?
Best regards
Martin

Have the 83341 loco and the 43600 set too, which runs great with the Amtrak F7, but I have a similar quandary ... any references on these Walters Amtrak coaches you found ?

Woot ... browsing around, just discovered this 2011 M* 26940 item : http://www.modellbahn.com/forsale.northamerican.html

I know it doesn't solve our NE corridor consist question (even though it did serve NY) ... but whatever, for the beauty of it !

Hi Per,

our Alberto did some truly excellent ThumpUp modifications on non-marklin coaches.
NYC livery, especially. Here you'll get your ticket ...

If anyone missed out on the Bluebird, Scott (Helmut's Hobbies) has or may have an extra set.

Not affiliated in any way with Scott.

The Walters AMTRAK that I found are:
932-6323 85' Budd Grill-Diner (Phase 3 livery):
Grill Diner

932-6342 85' Budd 10-6 Sleeper (Phase 2 livery):
Sleeper

932-6363 85' Budd 24-8 Slumber coach (Phase 3 livery; I have two of this one):
Slumber coach

932-6422 85' Budd Lounge (Phase 2 livery):
Lounge

I guess that more correct would have been Amfleet coaches like this one from Bachmann, but perhaps in an even earlier livery:
Amfleet

(I hope the pictures show up, as they do when I preview this post, and thus linking to them at walters.com works unlike deep linking to Märklin's Internet pages).
