Agh... I got a brand new BR50 from the 29500 set. It worked fine, then I oiled it according to the instructions provided: 1 drop to each powered wheel from the underside. I did not oil the motor. Afterwards it moved normally for a few meters, then stopped. Now it'll play sounds but won't move at all. The motor makes some kind of abnormally loud humming noise. Anyone have ideas?
Edit: I opened it up and don't see any oil anywhere near the motor. Which, apparently, should be oiled? In either case it doesn't seem like the oil did any damage. I'm obviously no expert but it looks to me like the motor spins but no power gets transferred to the wheels. The main cog makes a very weak effort at rotating...

Elukka,
Make sure there are no other obstructions apparent.
The cog wheels should turn with some ease..
See if you can turn the gogwheels one way and look at the drivingwheels if any foreign matter has entered the teeth.
Look at the brushes and see if the tension spring is applied to the brushes and see if they are in the right position.
I would not turn the loco on again unless you find the fault.

I didn't see any obvious obstructions. I tried turning the cogs. They wouldn't turn forwards, but did turn backwards... And out came a big black ugly clump of dust.  It had been hidden between the gears before. Thanks for the help. I'm happy it turned out to be something much simpler and cheaper than I anticipated...
