60212 software update and router: how?

Hi everyone. I'm having trouble with my CS1. I want to update it so that it might be able to work with the Märklin "Mobile Station" app that I might buy. However, I don't know what software version I have, nor if it can be updated. I don't even know if I can hook it up to my WiFi router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

sorry but you will not be able to use the MS App in combination with the CS1 - for that you will need the CS2. Instead you can use the TouchCab software available on the AppStore.

Any CS1 with software version 2.0.3 or 2.0.4 and the reloaded version 3.x.x can be connected to a router and used in combination with TouchCab.

As Fredrik says - the "Mobile Station" is for an updated CS2 only.

I use TouchCab with my CS1 (CS sw version 2.0.4) and it works great as mobile controller.
Ergonomically much better than "Mobile Station" for one hand operation with eg iPod Touch.
I think you should try TouchCab. Jens, the software developer is a member here and may listen
if there are any issues.

The new Märklin "Main Station" app for iPad is CS2 only too.


An important thing when using a CS in a home network is to configure it with a fixed IP address
so you know which address to connect the mobile units to... But that's a networking thing, not CS/MS...

Hi Tadzio:

You need first to know if you have the Marklin CS1 or the reloaded CS1 from ESU. In any case, you should be able to find the software version number in the setup menu.

As for the connection to a router, it is pretty straightforward. You need of course a RS45 cable that you plug in one of the free sockets in the back of your router. Then, you have to setup the station in order to connect it to the router. I don't remember how it works in the Marklin CS1, but you should have in the setup menu something like "setting IP address".

When done, you have to download the file either on Marklin website http://www.maerklin.de/d...g/systems/downloads.html or on ESU website for the CS1 reloaded. If your CS1 is not reloaded, simply download the file on your computer and follow the instructions in the instructions manual. The most recent version is 2.04.

Email me or PM me if you want a step by step process. I have personally a CS1 reloaded and it just works great.

I see your CS1 on youtube and it is not software 2.03 or 2.04 version.

It is early software date 2005/06 version, Marklin update CS1 with new hardware free of change in 2007/8.

Why not try newly 60215 CS2?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I contacted my dealer to ask if he had the CS2 in stock. I'll look around elsewhere as well.

I'll also try to follow the step by step process of hooking up my CS1 to the WiFi router and seeing if anything works.

When you have managed to set up your CS1 with a wifi router, then download the free version of TouchCab from iTunes to your iPod Touch and try it...

Do you really need a CS2 as the top priority item? I myself have bought trains instead, still using my old CS1 + iPod & iPad...

The CS2 has a lot of cool factor to it, but for a lot less money you could have a nice setup. Get an iPod touch, install the TouchCab app, get a cheap WiFi router gateway, and use your PC or laptop and install iTrain. All connected to your CS1.

Search here in the digital section using keyword TouchCab and iTrain for more info.

Thanks Thomas. I might try this out, although I was having trouble a few months ago hooking up my CS1 to my WiFi router. I don't think I can get updated to the new software, or even get WiFi to access the app.

I have tried to set up the WiFi via the router, but it does not work. Maybe I can get an Apple Extreme/Express router and mount it by my layout. That way I'd get the app and have WiFi access permanently on the CS1 and my iPod.

If this does not work, then in a few months I'll most likely get the CS2. That might be a lot easier in terms of setup and operation for WiFi than the CS1.

No, it's the same minimum basic common networking knowledge that is needed, just as it is to set up anything with a fixed IP-address in your home network...
Not exactly rocket science nowadays... A router is a router whatever the brand is, you will have to know what to talk to over the network....

If you can't set up the 60212, the 60215 will not be easier...

Added a rough sketch of the basic parts of my simple home network, hope it helps a bit...
There is more in my home network, but wireless repeaters and other stuff are not in the scope of the basic connections... Wink

I love your schematics. ThumpUp ThumpUp It shows how we are now so dependent of Internet. Soon our refrigerators, heating systems, etc. will also be connected to Internet. More headache in perspective for IT people to make all those devices working together. I don't think you will be out of work for a very long time! Hopefully!ThumpUp

A little off topic, but like Juhan, I've got Internet connectivity everywhere in my house. Hard wire drops in every room and the garage, wireless, two computers (one acts as a media center), wireless printer, PlayStation 3, an original Xbox loaded with XBMC (Xbox Media Center) and even my three TVs get their HDTV signals from the Internet via AT&T Uverse (one TV actually has a direct Internet connection for hitting the video services). A total of approx. 34Mb/s bandwidth coming to the house and it includes a 12Mb/s Internet connection.

What would we do without the Internet!!
