Hallo,

I have Marklin 39021 - Badischen Statesbahn IVh Steam lok and I would like to find out if it is possible to inrease/ decrease volume on MFX decoder?
There is no such option on Central Station via CV configuration so before I open up this particular lok I want make sure there is such option available.
Any one out there have any experience with 39021 ?

BTW: That sound decoder sounds painfully wrong - ( why Marklin departed with ESU decoders ??? They never learned the lesson - they have done it with Lenz in erly 90's and
every one knows what happened )

Regards,

Hi,

On the 39020, the volume is set in cv63. Values from 1 to 63.
I guess it's the same for 39021.
The sound is not that bad with a middle value volume .

Using a Central Station adjusting the Volume is Easy. NO Need to adjust a CV

Edit the Loco, on one of the edit tabs go down and check each page.(having a seniors moment and cannot remember) on one there will be one for Sound VOlume. Just move the slider to the desired level, then make sure you Write it to the decoder and then save.
same can be done with max Speed etc.

Hallo Gents,

Thank you to all for taking your time to reply to my post.

Soud volume on my Marklin 39021 has been adjusted to more pleasant level but here is weird things -
I just purchased my new ESU - ECoS 50200 and in order to test all features AC and DCC I went an extra mile and borrowed Baden IVh lok in DCC -
Trix 22182.
Trix DCC Baden IVh - does not have such option - so you are stuck with one volume level from factory. So decoder is a cheap Selectrix DCC
decoder. Now only Roco and Brawa is using ESU state of the art decoders ( it is a shame that Marklin cut ESU off )

Sounds strange...
I can adjust volume via MS2 and reducing volume if i want in any of DCC locomotivs.
If you take look at locomotivs manual, you will see at schedule what there is CV adresses to change by program.
It should stand there at CV 63.

Hallo,

YES , It is very srange. There is no such option on ESU ECoS
to access sound CV 63.

Below you can see eMail I received from Marklin.

" Sehr geehrter Herr .........

verändern Sie hierzu den CV 902 im Bereich von 1 – 255. Confused

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

E-Mail: Service@maerklin.de
Internet: www.maerklin.de "

eMail from Marklin Goppingen states that you have CV 902 to
adjust volume on Trix lok but it is total absurd. You can't access any CV on this decoder
with ESU ECoS 50200 period. It says it is GENERIC NRA decoder Crying

Sincerely,

Marklineisenbahn

Mr. Mayer is completely right regarding CV902 for those DCC decoders (have you ever heard about "SUSI"?).

When really reading the 39021 manual pg. 28 the relevant info is there; so just a RTFM problem.

The mfx problem was solved long ago.

The "FM" for the Trix loco neither mentions SUSI nor CV 902, so "reading the frustrating manuals" does not always help these days.

I read about SUSI and CV 902 in some Piko manual. Good to know that Piko manuals also help with Trix locos.ThumpUp
So if you have a problem with a Trix loco, don't forget to read the Piko FAQ ...

Have you tried the DCC programming screen (instead of "Edit loco").
With DCC programming you can read or write any CV for the loco on the programming track - even if the loco is not yet set up on the ECoS.

AFAIK Roco no longer uses ESU decoders, they had Uhlenbrock decoders for a while and use Zimo decoders now (but on one hand you can still find Roco locos with ESU decoders (or even the older Lenz decoders), on the other hand maybe they have switched the supplier again).

Lutz,
He was having a problem with the TRIX 22182 DO not think that the Trix Manual has page 28 of the 39021 Manual. Read carefully before typing please or get better glasses.

RTFP carefully

Hallo everyone,

Thank you for taking time to reply and your input.

As I mentioned earlier I had no problem with Marklin 39021 Badische IVh lok. In Edit mode I adjusted Cv 63 and sound was fine.
But since I have no experience with DCC and I was working with borrowed DCC Trix lokomotive ( to test my new ESU Centrale)
frustration was running on high side.

"...Have you tried the DCC programming screen ( instead of "Edit loco" ).

Tom , Mr.Mayer f/ Goppingen ,
Thank you Gentlemen for your tip and advice - it did solved a problem. Instead of "Edit Loco" mode I went as per your advice to "DCC programing" mode and
"fixed" that sound volume to more pleasant level.

Regards,

Marklineisenbahn

P.S.
