May I just ask - what did you use for the 3102 BR53?

How do you power the twin smokestacks?

I have a 3702 I want to modernise a bit, and the 6090 decoder in that seems to have some extra bits added for more power... Smile

Juhan,

Usually you connect the Aux 1 wire to the smoke generator connection (it may have already been done and all you need to get a smokegenerator, as listed with the loco (Seuthe Number 10 or 11), the difference between them is the voltage. 10-16 or 16-22 volts. and it depends what control unit you use. (MS1, 6021 can all use the higher voltage, Analog 10-16 volts
Being a metal housing your smoke stack(s) is your ground connection.

Dave (Big Daddy) asked me if I use a relay, I'll have to wait for his answer as to why.

good luck with it.

regards.,

John

To everyone, thanks for your compliments and it was a pleasure doing it, although it takes hours to work out where everything goes and fits.
The gear lights on the 3089 and BR 18 had been handmade to suit each loco and for the BR 53 also handmade but there was a provision to fit them into.
The firebox light (3089), a hole was drilled and a led inserted and the owner just ok it with another firebox light in the BR 53.
The only thing left, so far function (Aux 4) is concerned a drivers cab interior light but this could be connected to the gear light function, as the loco starts moving it goes off or you could control it manually.

Some of you have requested to show the works but as this project has been for some else, opening and closing the loco or tender to often could weaken the thin wire connection and I'm not willing to risk it.
None of the locos had any provisions to secure the decoder to a permanent position such as a printed circuit board and 2 of the tenders had the screw in the middle going into the tender, prohibiting installing a decoder flat onto the base.
The BR 53's tender I will show in my next pictures and until the sound decoder arrives the location of the speaker and the adapter plate is shown roughly where its going to finish up with.
Th adapter plate and decoder will be stuck to the ceiling of tender and the speaker will stay where it is or I see if both adapter plate/decoder and speaker can stand up sideways.

regards.,

John

Hi John,

That's excellent work, video's are great.

Would you be interested in doing a conversion on a Loco for myself, so I could run the Loco on Baden-Württemberg.

You could buy the suitable candidate locally, carry out your magic on it, and then post it on to me.

Send me a PM for details....Thanks.

Ian.

Hi John

This has been really interesting following these projects. With all the different functions you have achieved is great compared to what comes with the Marklin decoders.
Thanks for sharing your skills and expertise.

Thank you all,

Ian, Pm sent.

Tony,

Other manufacturers have started to expand the sound functions and with ESU you have options either to delete or add a sound slot and also with their adapter plate 51968 you can convert the internal functions Aux 3 & 4 to an active function same as Aux 1 or 2.

So there are a lot of benefits attached to it.
As mentioned before, Railcom plus is the superior design of the mfx, which allows you to access all available CV's, change the loco number and it is permanently registered the moment you program it to your likings on the track and can be reprogrammed on the main track.

I've bought some double coil relays but so far haven't been able to connect them to any of my locos to expand the functions or minimize the function outputs by using one of these.

regards.,

John
