Hi everyone,
I am looking for help. My grandson has a Marklin Thomas the Tank Engine. Thomas is set at the factory at address 78. We never changed the address and it operated ok with the MS2. the other day I set about to programme another engine, and as the instructions state only on engine on the track, I had a quick look around to make sure nothing on the track. Unfortunately I missed Thomas hiding behind a hill. So I set about programming the new engine, when I noticed Thomas move. I turned everything off and removed Thomas. However the programming attempt must have upset Thomas. I cannot get him to run on the digital track anymore. I have tried to reprogramme him with the MS2 and also with a 6021, but no joy. It is impossible to ascertain if any of the programming commands work as Thomas has no lights. However Thomas will run quite happily on the old analogue track.
Does anyone know how I can get Thomas back into digital or is the decoder damaged?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bob.
Running Mtrack analogue and Ctrack digital. Collector of V200s.

Hi Bob,

I think what you need to do is spend Thomas a decoder reset on the MS2. This will reinstate all factory settings on Thomas' decoder including the digital address and you can take it from there if you want change any of the programmable features. Reprogramming without first resetting the decoder will probably not work because the digital address may not be what you think it is, hence the decoder ignores the programming signals.

Good luck, Robert

Bob:

I have done this before. It is possible that you programmed the other address onto Thomas' chip. For some reason when this happens I have a very hard time resetting the chip back to the factory settings. So what I would suggest you do is take your other engine off the track so it is just Thomas and then enter the address of the other engine you were programming when Thomas stopped responding. Once you do that you should be able to control Thomas and once you can do that, try and reprogram Thomas to whatever number you want.

Good luck.

Chris

P.S. I am assuming the Thomas engine's chip doesn't have dip switches you can manually throw. If it has that then simply set the switches for the address you want.
