Hi, It turns out that I have just received an Ae 6/6 locomotive from the 29850 starter set. After a couple 3050s (analog) and a 3336 (analog with an electronic reverse unit) it was time to a "top performance" Ae 6/6. The locomotive is gorgeous and has not been used at all: the body, wheels, gears, slider, paintjob, are all unmarked. But... Tha pantos on this loco are showing some very small rust spots (small but clearly visible). I wonder if some of you have found a similar problem on this loco (or another loco manufactured at the same time more or less). I'm very surprised because it's the 1st time I notice this problem. I own many electric locos, some of them more than 30 years old, and they do not show rust spots. Anybody has noticed the same issue? |

Hello Brakepad, It looks indeed a little unusual to me, especially on something that is less than 20 years old. It all depends in which conditions the thing was stored, but it could also be a slightly defective metal plating process. I wouldn't worry too much. But there is always a silver lining: I would look at it as perfectly natural "weathering"....I think Dr. Dirt would even agree with me! Enjoy the lok, it is great "puller", whether with a freight or passenger train...and definitely one of the best looking SBB loks ever made by Märklin.(I have lost count of how many I have collected!!) Cheers |

I have odd specks of rust on a couple of my pantos, but nothing serious.
It very much depends on the ambient conditions. Here we have a warm humid climate and we are close to the sea, so rust is an ever present challenge. |

Cheers I agree with you,in fact all Ae 6/6 by Märklin are very very nice locs and I like them very much (as stated I own also 4 of them...), and the rusty panto is not a real issue, but just an "unexpected" issue. Maybe the fact that the pantos are very different from "older model" Ae 6/6 has something to do with it,as older 3050 pantos (from the early seventies) look just like new (we live close to the sea as well). Even if this 29850 loc is awesome both aesthetically and in terms of performance, there's always something special with vintage Märklin loks. Best regards. |

Brakepad:
The 29850 was from around 2002. It is not that old a model. It looks like the pantographs were exposed to a high level of humidity. If you want, I have two sets of spare pantos from my 39421 and 37044 loks. The pantos are identical, but are painted black. I can send you a set if you pay for shipping.
If you decide rather to order replacements directly from Maerklin yourself, I would recommend the ones from the 37360, which have the gray colour actually used on SBB loks.
Regards

@Brakepad.
Don't forget to retain the four little plastic "legs" from each pantograph. You will need to mount and align them on the replacement pantographs when you install them on your lok.
