Hello Steven,
This is a very difficult question, but I will try to do my best and give you a range of dates when these logos were used and if not a range, a single date in which I have seen the logo used.
1st Logo 1892 Description: The G strikes through the "Co" and the "o" in "Co" is underlined twice.
2nd Logo 1892 - 1907 Description: The "C" of "Cie" is stylistically connected to the "G." The "ie" in "Cie" is underlined twice.
3rd Logo 1907 - 1918
4th Logo
5th Logo
6th Logo 1930 - 1972(?)
7th Logo 1919 - 1972 (Post 1947 the "MARKLIN" was in bold)
8th Logo Post 1963?
9th Logo 1973 - 1975 Capitalized "M" in Marklin
10th Logo 1976 - Present
*As you can see I haven't filled in all the information because I think your logos might be out of order and the text might be mismatched with the "GMC" monograms. Perhaps another member could confirm this and then I'll make a complete listing of the logos and dates.
Best regards,
Paul |

Hi Steven,
(1,2)No. 1 and 2 were used between 1892 and 1907. The emblem was added ~1899. (3) In 1907 the company was renamed to "Gebr. Märklin & Cie". (1-5) I can't allocate the various GMC-signs to exact years, often different versions are used side by side. The old sign was shown in catalogues until 1934. (6) The new sign (known as "bike") was introduced in 1930. (4-6) From 1930 to 1934 the old and new signs were also used together sometimes. (7) The most famous "MÄRKLIN"-lettering was introduced in 1919, the scan shows a more modern version which first appeared in 1947. (8) The abstractly geometric locomotive first appeared in 1963 and is in use up today. (9) The modern lettering with a capital "M" was only used between 1973 and 1975. (10) The modern "märklin" was introduced in 1976. After WWII Märklin was also written Mærklin in some papers for USA-customers.
Regards
Markus

Hello Steven and Markus, Yes, I think Markus is right in saying that the GMC monograms were sometimes used side-by-side as so assigning exact date ranges would be very difficult. It is important to note, however, the change from "Co." to "Cie." in 1907. Here, on one of the first few pages of the 1932 catalog is a "bike" logo (introduced in 1930) next to a GMC monogram, which as you can see, was logo #4 which means the GMC monogram in the shield was probably used well past 1932! Best regards, Paul |

Hi Steven, When Märklin registered the old emblem again in 1999 for use in the "140 years Märklin" publicty campaign, they choosed a "...&Co"- example. Strictly speaking wrong for todays company: German Register: 399337970 , reachable through http://register.dpma.de/...egister/marke/uebersicht (German only). Regards Markus
