I've had this railcar for years bought it 2nd hand but it looks like its in a good condition with 2 additional carriages.

I've also converted my other 2 SLB (Steiermärklische Landesbahnen) (3140).

With Led's front & rear and red marker lights (can be switched on & off)
5 pole high efficiency motor with an ESU lokpilot V4 and a Roco silent pick up shoe, ball bearings on both sides (6mm + 4mm).
There will be new coupling shafts with Roco 4 pin electrical couplings, this will give me the option to put head/marker, interiorlights in the carriages as well.

There is another one to go, its a Chiemsee version (Primex) of the 3016.

Great job JohnThumpUp I'm always impressed with your fitting of ball bearings, one day I will have learn that. I'm looking forward to seeing the 4 pole coupler fitted.

Thank you guys,

Yes the ball bearings, its jnot hard to do it but one has to be aware of, the hole is drilled dead centre.
On the other side you don't really have a guidance, as the hole you drill is bigger than what is provided.

John

Hi,

Since than there has been an other conversion, this time a Chiemgau Bahn 798 653-2 + 998 896-5, its a Primex production No. 3012m more information on Florian's Eisenbahnseite: http://www.frankenbahn.de/primex/3012E.htm

I've stripped the entire railbus, e.g. light holder, couplings, motor, reversing unit
and replaced it with led's' red - soft-white and interior lights,
Eventhually the railbus will have a sound decoder V4 21 pin and a 21 pin adapter plate to be able to use F3 for the interior lights.
F0 = light front & rear
F1 = Aux 1 = rear markerlight
F2 = Aux 2 = front markerlight
F3 = Aux 3 = interior lights

I've made up 4 PCB on each end and this includes 3 headlights, 1interior light

The motor is a conversion kit (60903) and I've used an ESU Version 4 decoder.

The coupling was changed and preserved as much as I could.because of its unusual shape & form.
I cut the front end off, cut the pin off and removed the coupling hook.
I than drilled a hole into the coupling to be able to connect a coupling shaft + 4 pin Roco electrical coupling.
To achieve the desired height, I had to make a thread into a brass pipe I had and than cut it at the exact height so the additional coupling & coupling shaft sits level.
My first attempt was to superglue the Roco coupling straight onto the cut off Railbus coupling but I wasn't happy with the application, the coupling I've cut off too much and for the railbus to turn on sharp curves, (industrial curve), it was to close together and moving the Roco coupling further out, would't had much support left.

Everything else went smooth, for a change and here it is, another converted railbus

More than one:
"VT 98 Schienenbus VT 98 für Nebenstrecken, auch für VT95 geeignet
Artikelnummer(n): 54454, 54554, 54854, 64454
Hersteller: ESU "
Above are the V4 sound decoders.

Also 62454 and 52454 (V3M4, V3.5).
Regards
Tom

Hi everyone,

One of these days I will add a sound decoder to one of these railbuses, just for noise level.

Beautiful railcars and impressive job, John.

I wonder how hard it would be for an amateur (me) to get a handle on doing this.
Is there a place where I can see the schematic?

Looking at the little IC board in the image of the green railbus, I don't understand how you achieve such and even light white/yellow light without a shadow/silhouette from the board. Does the yellow LED illuminate enough and reflect in a way that you don't see the board?

Thanks again for sharing?
