I must say I'm thouroughly surprised by seeing this new Märklin service. You can order spare parts by selecting them from the exploded drawings, check availability at Märklin's warehouse, order them and have them sent to your dealer.

This is very nice indeed.

Check it at http://www.maerklin.de/service/

This is indeed great help indeed, even if it's "only" a help to print an order form that you can send to your dealer. The best thing is that you can see if it is available or not in advance....

And of course to see the price...

That must be an error, or.......

May not be an error. The sum of all spare parts for any product (model train, car, washing machine, whatever) is usually higher than the item price. That's why people don't build their own locos from scratch... biggrin

But for just an engine? That would mean that if the engine or decoder is u/s, you'll by a new loco and replace the parts............

Right - but when I was a kid (late 1950s, early 1960s) there were (loco) kits, too, available from M ... Smile They were not expensive, then - but highly sought after collector items today (in unassembled condition only) [:p]

The prices for spare parts are usually much lower if you order them through a dealer, compared to what is indicated on the Märklin site.
The actual price can be less than half of the Märklin indicated price.

I think the Märklin web site is a good service to find the required spare part. But I wouldn't print out a list with the Märklin suggested prices on it and send it as an order to my dealer. I would ask for the prices from the dealer and go to another dealer if the prices were unreasonable.

Their price of Olav's example is: €173.33.Still quite a few Euro's if you ask me,however after seeing Märklin's prices...

Thanks so much for the link! Even though I don't read German, I think I have the site firgured out. I agree that the prices for some things are outrageous, but for me the value of the site lies in 3 areas:
a) finding the part number needed (already noted here)
b) finding out if a part is still available
c) seeing which parts are interchangeable from one model type to another
Thanks very much for the link

Find the part numbers you need, and ask your dealer what his price is, would be my advice. He may be able to undercut the prices listed on the website.

Only Loks so far Adrian, but I bet this forum may be able to help you identify parts.

Great idea Charlie,

I'm looking for:
- the boom support (the thing that the boom rests on during transport) for the 4671 crane and
- The black toothed rod that holds up the boom.

I can add a picture and point to the missing bits if anyone thinks that it will help..

There is a guy on eBay (Germany) who specialises in exactly this type of spare part. Just go to www.ebay.de and type in 4611. What you are looking for are articles with the title "*Kranwagenersatzteile* für Märklin HO Nr:4611". I'm sure he'll manage some English... Otherwise I'll be more than happy to help you.

They must, but I really don't see why, as it was hard to get on to the boom... The rests I can understand as they just sit in the wagon..

Miss 5 plays with these wagons and the little handles are jut right for her hands.. Apart form those in perfect condition, these wagons are very cheap on eBay.. We got the blue one with a set of six flat wagons (also great for play - people, containers, cars and sweets cab be loaded onto these things..) for much less than the shipping to Australia..

The crane wagons were often wanted by children, and subsequently they lost or damaged the parts. Same with me, but I also bought the missing parts on Ebay.

The gentleman in question calls himself "der-verrueckte" on Ebay, the link would be http://stores.ebay.de/id...ageName=STRK:MEFS:MESST. Good servisce there, and keep checking in, there is not always everything in stock !! I was very satisfied !!

"Der Verrückte" means the lunatic, the crazyman, the madman, what ever you prefer ... Just tellin' you !!

That's because it's a C-Sine motor with the attached electronics!
I get the impression M* keeps the C-Sine motors artificially high so as to prevent people from buying them by the truckload to retrofit older loks.

Take care of the yellow crane with black stripes. Only a few of them are made. The full yellow crane is more common.

Hopefully the blue crane will not try to lift the Swiss Collection-I - it could be very dangerous for the guy stand right under the lift bar!!! :-)))

Finding the correct spare parts for rolling stock is a very exciting "puzzle game" - finally getting them is another adventure! :-)

Knowing the "system" and obviously the "right people" helps.

No, the prices indicated by Märklin are extremely high for most of the spare parts, not only C-sine. Real prices are usually much lower. For example, I bought a spare decoder for a 37646 (which is not C-sine) for about half of the price indicated by Märklin.

Hi:

I checked the site listed on ebay for Marklin parts, but couldn't find anything for the Yellow Kran (Ma 4671.3).

I am also in need for the "black toothed rod" that holds the kran boom, and also 2 or 3 boom supports.

Would anyone have the part numbers so I can order them from my Dealer

Thanks,

Gene

Thanks, those are the parts I need. Also was hoping for the part numbers. Since I can't read, much less, speak German, I have to rely on sign language Smile.

I will see what I can do. Thanks again for the reference.

Giday,I have a head ache from translating German on the Märklin spare parts data base.Probably missed it; but where is the list for goods wagons/passenger cars please.
What I'm after is {if possible} some spares for 50 year old goods/passenger cars.
Other then Märklin, where could one pick up some of this stuff.
Thank you.
Smile
