Personal
The Rh 1043 appears to be a nice loco, allthough its a pitty this one hasn't got the driver in the cabin like most recent Roco's do. Driving characteristics are great like most other Roco's: smooth and silent. I'd like to implement a sounddecoder to the loco as wel, but I'm not sure this is possible because soundmanufaktur.at does not mention the Rh1043 in her programme. Allthough it did not do regular service on the Brennerbahn, it will do on my Brennerbahn lay-out.

Rinus,

I've got 3 Marklin models. the pantograph look good.
If you take the housing off, I can let you know whether or not it can take an ESU sound decoder.

I think ESU has one for the 1043 or is it the 1042 ?

Are you sure about that? Did you read CV 8?
Spare part list shows decoder #10732 - and this is an Uhlenbrock decoder.

Hi John,

Esu got one for the 1042. Perhaps Krois is offering one. Let me have a check on that one.

< edit: they do have it at krois modell KROIS MODELL . AT >

Picture of the body interior here. A small speaker on top of the gearbox might fit.

Rinus,

There is plenty of room for a speaker, maybe even 28mm.
On the other hand the second worm gear assembly looks like being above the framework.
I would try to fit the decoder on this side and put the speaker where the decoder sits at the moment.
has it all wheel drive or only 2 axles ?

Im not sure there is more room there since there is an identical wormgear just below the decoder. But i agree that a 28 mm speaker with a modified housing will probably fit. If not a speaker without housing will definatelly fit.

Rinus

If you happen to have a LokPilot 3 or newer, use that instead. The engine control is so much better than Uhlenbrock and the locomotive will be even more silent.

You operate your swedish Rc version of the rh 1043 with a lokpilot decoderThumpUp ??

I'll replace the Uhlenbrock decoder soon with the installation of a ESU Loksound 3.5 decoder. I'm not a big fan of Uhlenbrock decoders in general. They have a tendency to react in unforseen ways during start up and when experiencing short circuits somewhere on the lay-out.
