Having some second thoughts about proceding with c rail as the layout takes shape. If I am going to change this is the time. I have ballasted my own track in N scale and two rail HO...but regarding K track...if the glue-mixture is applied with great care...is there still a chance, due to the specific engineering of K track compared to two rail, that the glue is more problematic? Or....is the case such that K track is very reliable electrially...more so than two rail track, and glue in and around the components will not hurt the operation? What are some dos and don't for ballasting K track?

Also...how is the ease of digital operation with K track, in your opinions? I realize the lack of the molded roadbed will not hide decoders for turnouts...but are there any other considerations?

Thanks!

Hi Bill,all,

Not really,no matter what track you have it's the way it is layed and wired that has the most effect on it.Since I also airbrush my K-track,here's a tip that might help you.Before I airbrush I use a product called 'magic masker' in the center rail studs,this is an uncured latex product that I also use to mask other models for airbrushing.I apply this with a toothpick tokeep the paint off the studs as I airbrush.You could fdo this to the studs before you apply your wetting agent/glue.It easily coms off with your finger when you are done.You might alos use white glue for the same thing.Since we should keep the studs clean,I would suggest using an eye dropper to apply the wetting agent/glue,instead of spraying these.Doe shat help?

As you already know keep the moving parts of the points(turnouts clean!Paint the area grimy black under where the turnouts will go,and check them right after you ballast them.
I'd also point out two that Noch makes some real nice styrofoam road bed for K-track,time and hassle saver!<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

I really don't think there is a big difference.The fact that you can make a contact track anywhere with K and that it's the only one with flex,digital works fine with M,C or K.

&gt;&gt;I realize the lack of the molded roadbed will not hide decoders for turnouts...but are there any other considerations?&lt;&lt;

Other than Viessmann(recently) when you use C(orM) track you have to use Märklin turnout motors.With K,you can use other manufactures turnout motors and hide them under the layout AND replace them without having to take up the track.Same with decoders,they are under the layout and can be replaced easily,...of course we are taking about permanent layouts.
