You can find "upd" when your press the wrench of the loco in the CS2. On the page where you can change settings like speed and sound, there's "upd" for some locos.
Does this mean you can update the loco somehow? And what updates are they? New sounds?
It seems you can only find this "upd" with newer mfx trains.

Rumours say this button will update the firmware of new "universal genius" decoders. I never tried it, I'll wait till someone reports successful updates on one of the MRR fora.

So it's only available for Trix decoders and not for ESU decoders.

I have tried but nothing happens....

Where does that moniker ("universal genius" decoder) come from?

There was a famous article in the famous Märklin Magazin that called the new decoders that way.
They wrote that the same decoder could be used for mfx and DCC, making it an "universal genius", so M* needed only one decoder hardware for both 2R and 3R models.
They forgot to mention that the decoder firmware only allows either mfx or DCC, but many readers believed they would support mfx and DCC soon.

Many of those decoders have problems with acceleration and braking delay and the correct treatment of headlight intensity. Good to know there's a way to update them.
