After looking at all of the Banana Wagons I realised that propably Only teatotallers collected banana wagons and they look boring and very similar. only a couple of variations.

Now a much more sensible wagons are BEER WAGONS.
Beer wagons are around in great abundance and variations so we should have a topic devoted to BEER wagons.
Now beer wagons are collected by serious Drinkers and also occassionally Non Drinkers and usually of a Mature Age.

Now I am not sure how many Beer wagons I have but later i will go and find them where the beer drinking bandits have hidden them and put them on show.

So let us outdo then pesky Banana car collectors who end up with Dozens of the same car where us mature collectors have dozens of different Cars.
Beer is better than Banana Smoothies. you can drink many variations of beer but only 3 or 4 types of Banana and they all taste the same.
Let the Show Begin.

Nev,

It has been all over the newspapers lately, binge drinkers have become a real health issue in Australia, young people drinking more than ever before.

I may be part of a teatotaller society and I do eat bananas on a regular basis, were as beer wagons is again orchestrating alcohol and lets hang it all out as you've correctly described it: beer drinking bandits hiding in alleys, toilets, and this is all they are: bandits and unfit to join the rest of society.

I have to be drunk before you convince meLOL

John

P.S.
If this gets off the ground, this will be the biggest ever beer drinking Party I've been to, without touching the stuff.

I can see Mrs. Clayton celebrating herself

Well said Nev and I thank you that I can now graduate from those pesky banana collectors to the mature collectorsThumpUp

I totally agree with you, beer wagons are the way to go, and have been collecting them a lot longer than those pesky bananas.Flapper

To start the ball rolling here's a short video of my special Schöfferhofer Br 185 with a rake of Schöfferhofer wagonsCool

On a side note, I used to belong to a Beer Club (24 members) for the past 10 years. We used to meet at the end of every four weeks (as that was our flexi period for work) in an old house where we would consume four types of different international beers.

When you arrived you were given a half liter stein full of beer and after a sip or two you had to answer three questions:-

1) what country did the beer come from
2) What was the name of the beer
3) What was the alcohol content.

To say the least not many got all three right. Although we had great fun and found out that a lot of our members geographically didn't know where Slovakia was to their a....h...s. Alcohol content used to range anywhere from 1.5% to 11.9%, so after four beers no one cared where Slovakia was.....no offense to anyone of Slovak extractionUnsure, as one of the rules was that you couldn't ditch your beer, you had to drink the lotLove

In the time span that the club ran we had over 500 different types of international (and some Australian boutique beers - every now and then we would thrown in a VB and see what happened) beers from countries such as Belgium, Germany to Namibia and Bosnia-Herzogovina and countries I can't even spell now.Smile We used to have special half day meetings every year, where we would "taste" 10 beersWub

I even managed to acquire beer wagons of the beers I had drunk.Cool

Unfortunately the club has folded as my place of employment moved into the city and we had no place to meet discreetly.Crying

Anyway, sorry for dribbling of courseDrool .

Bring on the beer wagons, I shoutLaugh

B2,

Great video but there seems to be a long waiting time before another beer arrives.LOL

Dribbling it is indeed, couldn't remember where the club was located and coming up with a weak excuse, the club has folded.

the beer clubs I belonged to are still standing today, except me.

lets face it, all it is for us today is: memory and looking at the young ones, with plenty of banana wagons (B1), I must admit, the idea of bringing on the beer cartel, does bring back memories, not many though.Drool

It is the cheapest and most common carriage on the market but seeing you are shouting, who
cares.BigGrin

Here are my memories:

Straight from the brewery to you
UserPostedImage

The myth of different tasting beers, here is the proof, they all made at the same brewery.

If you wonder what the stick is all about in the foreground, it is a precautionary measure, drinkers have to walk the line before driving away.

I remember this guy, walking into the pub at the right time when we've started a round of shouting and he always left before his turn came: have to go.... associated with a phone call from his wife and any time he stayed over his social gathering among mates, his wife came down to to the pub and screamed and yelled at him, he should of been home hours ago.
You wouldn't see him for months on end and than the whole saga started all over again.

John

P.S.

In my younger drinking days, yes, down the pub (shame on me) I bought shares in the Water corporation, every time I went to the toilet my shares got recycled, I couldn't loose on the value or volume.LOL LOL LOL

Well I searched and Found the beer wagons. 12 Beer abd one Rum. The train crew like their Rum.
There is one wagon that has a Lorry load of Barrels to deliver to Ians Club house. they ran dry.

Tried to take a video but witha Digital Still Camera it is a bit hopeless.

Photo of the Beer train and then the wagons.

he was later charged by police with anti social behaviour by not obeying to the law of splitting the spirit into smaller consumable drinking bottles.

Hello Nevw.

I think the deeper meaning of all the bananas is that someone perhaps would rather have a Banana daiquiri than a beer. Cool

G'day all

I thought I'd start first by showing a few pictures of the diorama that will showcase my beer wagons. If it looks familiar, it is, as it's the basis of my Banana Depot.

UserPostedImage

I thought if I'll be showing beer wagons the background might as well have a beer theme, so went on the internet, found some nice photos relating to beer, printed theme and placed them on a cardboard background to make it look like billboards and stuck them behind the fence.

UserPostedImage

Also added the Faller brewery

UserPostedImage

OK let's get started

First one is actually not a beer wagon, it's a beer loco. A special edition released back in 2009 and supposedly only available in Germany. I somehow managed to acquire it from a US dealer. IT's a BR 185 with Schöfferhofer Bier paint work.

Nice composition of beer wagons and a rare beer loco.

Thanks John.

Unfortunately all the wagons are fully empty. As far as operation, who knows. I've been told that some of the beer wagons that Märklin produce aren't real breweries, just something they have come with. How true this is I don't know. Although I have checked some of my wagon's breweries on the net and they seem to be real.

Even though I like banana wagons, the beer wagons are my real passion and am always on the look out for more to add to the 141 I now have.

Here's a photo of a rake of old ones.

Piet,

what an absolutely wonderful collection of old style beer wagons. They are magnificent.

Are they all Märklin?

I have to say my favorite is the Ludwigsburg one, and the reason why is that I spent my early childhood in that quaint little town and where the love of Märklin began when I got my first starter set for Christmas 1957 - I still have BR 24 (and she still runs like she did then) as well as the two passenger carriages and brake van. Love

Great photography as well.ThumpUp

Don't started to get desperate LOL
I'm sure you will manage that within 10 years. BigGrin
I bought those cars in the regular shops. When I'm in another shop I will always look for beercars.Bought a lot via ebay and exhibitions. Bought the Crombacher car directy from the factory. Saw an announcement in the Märklin insider magazine.

Many thanks Ian and John.

John, I must admit it's not a bad drop, but neither is the SchöfferhoferDrool

I was also very lucky last time I was in Germany (2008) to visit the Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu brewery in the Schwartzwald. Didn't get a chance to go through the actual brewery but did have their dark beer at the tavern that is right next to a rail crossing. A beautiful drop, if I say so myself. Drool Also took me a good two weeks before I could pronounce the name properlyBlink

Dale, no problems for the next meeting but when will that be Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused Blink Blink Blink Blink

LOL Did you hear about the guy who's father's name was Ben, and mother's name Anna? They named him Benanna!!
Beer cars are some of Marklin's best work no doubt about that. Colorful for sure. Banana's are the perfect food. Potassium,B vitamins, fiber, perfect for breakfast. The Banana tree is actually a giant herb. The fruit itself is in the berry genus. Now beer, I don't know a lot about, other than it is brewed with hops, and yeast, and it's the perfect libatory beverage, unless you prefer whiskey, or wine. Of course some like the latter followed by the former, beer) in which case it's called a chaser, no? YUCK! Not my cup of tea at all. What is this Grog they speak of in Deutschland?
