Hi there, can someone tell me how to test a 6080 decoder without installing into Loco?

Location: On 1965 Märklin Boulevard just around from Roco Square
In the eighties dealers had a test equipment case with the following components:

1.) decoder connection box
2.) control unit.
with the control unit you had the opportunity to test the decoder, k 83, k 84 as well,

without these components you cannot test the decoder if its going forward or backwards although you could test the light function but this only would work for one direction only.

So the short answer is without having the above equipment, no you can't test the decoder without installing it.

I placed 4 16V lights in a piece of wood (an old broom head in fact)

one represented motor forwards, one motor reverse
one f0 forwards the last, f0 reverse

connect as if connecting to the loco motor and lights.
connect pickup and ground to decoder. Remember to connect the ground to the lights too.

Your principal is the same what Märklin used in an upmarket display box.

I conceed it can be done.

John, thanks for your reply, I will now setup a unused Marklin Motor with croc clips so one can connect the decoder easy. thanks again.
Are you a Marklin dealer? I need some Marklin parts.
