For the past half decade, Luxemburg based LS Models and Italy based ACME have cooperated in production of many models. LSM has marketed models of the Traxx loks made by ACME, as well as models of the MU type sleeping coach. Both companies have been manufacturing their models at Modern Gala in China.

This year, there appeared the first indications of possible competition between the companies. Originally, there were other companies working with them. Each company had a sphere of influence, both in terms of which countries they distributed each other's products, but also in terms of which countries' models were made by which company.

The departure of Heris and then RailTop, as well as the problems with Alpha Trains presented the remaining companies with opportunities to expand their lines to include some products that were originally handled by one of the former partners. It would appear that ACME would concentrate on Italy and Eastern Europe, while LS Models would concentrate on France and Benelux

Both companies expanded their line of Austrian and Swiss products. It appears that Germany has become a gray area. Both companies announced a series of DB and German models for this year, and for the first time, both companies actually announced rival models (Bpmz/T2S) where previously, they would have released cooperative models. This competition has not resulted in the collapse of the cooperation between the two companies, but the potential to cause a divide is definitely present.

Over the next few months, we will be able to see how the situation develops, and I guess that we will have a better idea of how this situation is affecting the relationship between these companies with the release of their 2011 new items and catalogues.

For information about recent models, consult the respective LS Models and ACME threads in the HO Forum.
