Hello gentleman...

My friend with a Americam DCC layout was wondering if the Hobby signals_
[72750 control box and acompaning signals]
would work with DCC signal/power running thru it?
(All seperate yellow wire power & proper track insolation done properly)

In other words, would it'burn-up' with DCC instead of Marklin digital running thru the
72750 internal electronics ?

Maybe a stupid question, but..
I could not see M* promoting the Hobby signals with Trix, so we wonderd?

Thanks
Howard..

Electronics?

In the 74391 manual they only show the box fed from 16 V transformers. That voltage is used for the lights and it must be AC.
DCC is also AC - but if the voltage is too high you could fry the LEDs.
But AC with a lower voltage might work for the lights. In the worst case lights are too dim and you can then still use another transformer.

The power going to the track is controlled by a mechanical switch. AC, DC, Märklin digital, and DCC should all work without problems.
I see no reason why it shouldn't work with Trix C track (the sockets were made for C track but it should be easy to modify them for other tracks).

Inside the box are 1k5 Ohm resistors providing power to the track when the signal is red. This is required by old M* decoders, but I don't think it'll lead to problems with DCC decoders.
Regards
Tom

The control box has a rectifier inside and can be used with digital or AC power. Central Station 2 and Mobile Station 2 also produce DCC and it doesn't harm the signals. So as long as the voltage is within reasonable limits it's no problem.

It has a rectifier, but it can't be used with DC coz the LEDs in the signal mast are anti-parallel and the box will let either the positive or negative part through.
They don't use it with digital power in the instructions pamphlet and I'm not sure if it can safely be used with digital power. But it surely will light up with digital power.

The MM ditigal power is not symmetrical, so the intensity of one LED could be higher than that of the other - with the flickering it will be the other way around. DCC can be symmetrical or asymmetrical, so intensity and flickering depends on the controller that is used.

By the way - what is the point of using these signals with digital power? The track power is separate from the power for light masts, so you could use power directly from the trafo for the lights. Of course you will need an AC power source, but most digital central units have this kind of trafo anyway.

Thanks as always guys !
""HO"" especially, he must be a teacher ,he always has patience to answer our
rookie questions.

Sorry for being so thick.
I'm one of those guys- where Digital signal is 'voodoo voltage'Huh

So if the 'DCC electricity 'LOL is OK, and the 72750 is basically a
two sided mechanical switch.... one position red light is on/power off __ other switch position green light on/power on.

As I see it then I could _
Attach the yellow & brown from the 'input plug harness' - to the 16 V AC Accessory transformer.
Look to see where my DCC wires attach to left/right rails.
Cut red wire from the 'input plug harness' and attach it to say, the left track rail for a DCC source.
Then take the red wire from 'output plug'[signals] harness and attach inside a left rail isolated section.
Just making sure I always attach to left rail with all the signals red wires.Tongue
