Greetings,

A friend of mine was having trouble running his BR 112 from the Rheinpfeil set on the club layout. The club uses 6021's for operation. It seems as if the the 6021 was not picking up the original address which I believe is factory set at #3.

Using my CS1 I was able to change the the address to #11 and the locomotive ran fine on my test track with my own 6021. The problem is that the only function that operates is the headlight/tailight function. The horn and station announcement will not come on when pressing the different function buttons on the 6021. However, all funtions work when being operated by the CS1. Using the edit lok page on the CS1 I was able to change the buttons that operated the functions thinking that they would somehow correspond with the function buttons on the 6021. Unfortunately that did not work as the 6021 was still only able to turn the headlights/tailights on and off with the one weird thing being that the station announcement would sound when powering up the 6021.

What am I missing here? Perhaps I'm asking or expecting too much from the 6021 unit in being able to operate various sound functions.

Anyone have any ideas or should the club upgrade from the old 6021's if they want the newer digital stuff to make noise???

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

The CU 6021 can control 5 function per address - provided the DIP switches on the CU 6021 are set correctly (#2 on, all others off; this is the default for recent CU 6021s, but I think the early ones had a different setup).

So all the functions of the 26540 set should be available using the CU 6021 with the default settings of the decoder.

With sound decoders you can use 2 MM addresses which will allow the CU 6021 to access 9 functions per loco - that should be enough noise for a club layout (Big Boy has 16 functions, but you won't miss anything essential).
Regards
Tom

I have no problems with my 6021 finding address 03, when that is the default address, or any other preset address from factory. My recent sound locs work with functions 0 to 4 with no problems whatsoever.

Are you sure the default address was 03? Did you try 03 on your own 6021 before changing it with your CS1?

I'm not sure what has happened here, but I suspect you have somehow changed the function mapping when changing the address on the CS1. Perhaps you could try a decoder reset?

Can you try test other Marklin digital loco(s) on 6021 to see working?

That did the trick, many thanks for the suggestion on setting the DIP switches on the 6021.

Hi, if it were just for the sounds - stay with it, you'll get most of them.
You even can run simultaneously 5 - 6 trains with the good old CU#6021 (depends on the layout's configuration) ThumpUp
