Have you bought from Lokshop before Bigdaddynz? I bought two 46528 sets of them a month or so ago and receive it in less two weeks and was wondering if this is about normal to our region of the world? I would imagine that Aus and NZ are similar postage times from Germany.

Hi David. As I said above your thread is infected and I suspect most readers like Ranjit and I have to struggle to keep up with your topic.
I find you purchase of this mega set very interesting as it will give us an idea of how Marklin are presenting a set with the CS2 and how you find it compared to an ECOS etc.
My view would be to move elsewhere as previously suggested or delete the offending posts from one member.
Some action now to avoid future problems would be good for all concerned.
Meanwhile hopefully your set will be arriving any day now and we can continue to discuss and enjoy .. trouble free (please)

This is the first time I've purchased from the Lokshop, but I have purchased from another large German dealer in the past, ETS. Their delivery times were 10 to 14 days.

Yes, we can do this from NZ ThumpUp

Usually DHL will provide a matching tracking nos so the item can be traced either ways.

Delivery time - er, this is actually a bit funny.
Officially, DHL give a timeframe of between 10 - 12 working days.

But I have parcels arriving from Germany just one week after the first notice that the parcel was received at DHL in Germany.
Other times, it could take up to 21 days.

Enjoy your 29500, BigD, and keep us posted!

Yes, as Tim has pointed out we can track it. Lokshop emailed me the DHL tracking no, but Stephen has pointed out that the delivery progress can be followed from your Lokshop account by clicking on 'Order Status'.

BTW, I should also point out that the 37847 50 year anniversary BR50 is part of the same order.....

Looks like the Lokshop have sent the starter set and the 50 year loco in separate parcels. Hopefully, this will help with regard to GST when the parcels come into NZ.

The set has arrived. Only 7 days from the Lokshop in Germany to me here in NZ. And, it sailed through customs without being stopped for GST tax!

I set up a small oval at work, next to my desk. Many workmates came past to have a look at it. My boss wanted more track, so we took it all downstairs to our Engineers workroom, and set it up there.

Box front cover.

UserPostedImage

Box end. The cover has 2 lugs, one top one bottom, which fold into the bottom box. There is also a carry handle on the top. I found that even with the lugs properly inserted, the whole set could not be lifted by the handle, as the top lug would keep on popping out. I has to carry it by picking up the box, rather than using the handle.

UserPostedImage

Locos, cars and CS2. The freight car with the 3 yellow cylinders is a beer wagon. My Bavarian workmate tells me it is not a very good beer, because it comes from Stuttgart!

UserPostedImage

CS2. My Boss was very impressed with this, he had learnt how to do the basics (including solenoid switching) in a matter of a few minutes. He has some Fleischmann trains, and his comment was that the CS2 is way better than his controller.

My Boss arrived at work before I did, and saw the box being delivered to my desk. By the time I arrived, he was beside himself, and it was all he could do to wait until I arrived to open the box - When I arrived, it was he who opened it, not me!

Trains in use on the carpetbahn.

UserPostedImage

One of my work colleagues made this tunnel. Another person who was exposed to model trains when he was young, by his father. He also mastered the CS2 very quickly, and had the Br50 shunting the freight train around the track.

More to come.

I can imagine the excitement Big Daddy. Similar stuff at my office when my last shipment of Marklin arrived. We used a meeting room to unpack it although did not run it. I work in a consumer goods company so not as many MMR inclined folks around BigGrin. I have had my eyes on that set.. but no courage yet to buy it

I also have a large order on its way from Lokshop. Funny thing is DHL picked it up on 1st Sept and 2nd Sept it went to the "export sorting hub" where it stayed till the 7th. It left Germany on the 7th but has not arrived yet in Singapore 3 days later... puzzling Confused

What a weekend you are going to have ... ThumpUp

I really like your office layout. ThumpUp So did you get any work done that day?LOL I know I wouldn't

It would of been neat if you had an S-88 and some contact tracks, and been able to show the true power of the CS-II

I wish marklin would include in its mega-starter sets an S-88, some contact tracks and two signals, then also have a programed routs set up already programed into the CS-II. Not necessarily for me but for the general market.

I think more people would go full automated digital if the initial first step was right there for them to take.

I know that might add at least 200 euros more to the price but, if they could discount that some they might sell more signals and feedback units.

And I think that is how marklin can set it self apart from other companies and show that they have everything all in one box and that there is no need to have to research and track down components.

I was very impressed with the Lokshop's service. I ordered online - the order also included the 37847 50 Year Br50. I received weekly updates as to the status of my order - 37847 was at the Lokshop first, and then the 29500 starter set. They sent the items in 2 packages, which given the combined value, probably helped them to get through customs at this end. Postage costs were very reasonable, especially given the size of the 29500 box.

And DHL should be mentioned for a 7 day delivery for 29500, and 8 days for 37847, one of the quickest I have ever had from Germany.

Overall, the rating would be 'Excellent'.

By the way, can you post some close-ups of the 37847 50 Year Br50? I just want to compare it to the one I have.

Thank you for the photos of the birthday locomotive, David.

Be careful with the road number plate on the boiler (front end). It comes off very easily.

The weathering effects on your locomotive is very different from mine. On mine, I have the following:

1. There are some white marks on the boiler (at the top and on both the sides). I guess they are there intentionally to replicate the dried mineral salts from the boiler water.
2. At the rear end of the tender (both sides), there are also some white marks like something has dripped down. Also, on one of the sides, there seems to be a small area where the paint has peeled off. Again, this is intentional to show the weathering effects of locomotives in service.

By the way, can you detach the tender or is it hard wired?

Overall, it is a fine locomotive. Enjoy!

Cheers,
Ranjit

If one were considering buying this set, what value would you give to the separate components? Breaking it out as the E50 and wagons, BR50 and wagons, track, CS2 with transformer.

Currently on the ETS website without VAT this set is euros 1260,00

The CS2 is 537,00 and the transformer about 70,00

(The 29151 set which is a E151 with wagons, MS1, and track is 336,00)

When you cost it out as a cheaper way to purchase a CS2, what do people think they are saving?

First, thank you all for your replies to my first post about choosing a starter set. The more research I do the more I like the 29500 set! Even though it is a lot of money, it has everything I would want. I especially like the central station and the ability to easily operate two trains. I have a very limited space in my home, so the size of the layout is a problem. On all the websites the photo resolution is not clear enough to see the measurements clearly. Could someone tell me what they are? Also, what would be the minimum table to accommodate this layout? Thank you again!

It's 380 x 107 cm.
You can make it shorter by leaving out some straight tracks (that can later be used for more sidings).
And you can buy curves with smaller radii if the 107 cm are a problem (R3 is included).
Regards
Tom

The box gives the dimensions as 380cm x 107cm.

Since there already is a topic on the 29500 set, I am merging this topic with that one.

With the layout width of 107 cm. how much would you have to add to the actuall table built? In my case I would also have to put one long side of the table against the wall. As you can see, every centimeter is critical to my decisiion whether to buy this set.

You should allow at least 2 - 3 cm from the edge of the board to the tracks, so allow a total of 113cm. That will fit nicely on to a standard 120cm width sheet of plywood or MDF.

110 cm table width will do, but you'll have tracks right at the edges, no safety zone for accidents.
Derailing should not be the main issue, but people passing the layout will be very close to the track. Better to have a few centimeters before the track.

f4 Adjustable Braking Delay (ABV)

Stupid me always thought that ABV was "Acceleration and Braking Delay" ...

Tom, I copied that phrase out of the loco's manual. I've always referred to it as "Acceleration and Braking Delay".

With Microsoft products we get new German phrases with every new release - and sometimes the expressions used in the program do not even match the expressions used in the online help.
With Märklin products you get new English expressions with every new release. Flapper

Acceleration and braking delay is adjustable - but f4 doesn't adjust it, it turns it off.

My favourite in Märklin nonsense is this Safety Warning:
"Under no circumstances should transformers
rated for an input of 220 volts be connected to the
American 110 volt household current system."

Transformers rated for 220 volts should be safe when used with 110 volts, so what's the problem?

Long story short: don't use blue transformers ...
What they try to say: Don't use transformers made for 110 volts with the current 120 volts in the USA.

Tom

I guess safety warnings don't make any sense nowadays, they are not meant to keep you safe, just to comply with legal requirements.

Seen on a packet of peanuts I bought recently "Warning! This product may contain nuts." No kidding! BigGrin
