I realise the 60173 is not compatible with the CS1 (60212). If this is true, which booster is compatible with 60212 CS1?

The old 6015 or 6017 booster can connect to CS1 with upgrade software 2.03 or 2.04.

ESU EcoSBoost can be used with CS 60212 (requires software 2.0.4 or higher).
This booster supports mfx feedback.

If you use other boosters but require mfx feedback, you can try TAMS BoosterLink (site supports German only):

Almost any booster should do if you don't need mfx feedback (mfx locos will only register on sections powered by CS directly).

Cool

I've had some problems with a friends setup, and I think it should be noted that wire-ing
of the transformer-side of boosters with "Push-pull" output are different than boosters
with "H-bridge" output, when connected to a MS or CS.
If "the brown" on all trafos supply-ing both MS/CS and boosters are connected together,
you can get problems.

Is the older 60172 have mfx feedback when connected to CS1?

Hi Per,
I remember now that there was a hardware upgrade of the CS. I don't know exactly what was that upgrade, but reading Tom'post and yours, I conclude that upgrade adds a galvanic isolation to the booster output connector.
That could explain that your friend has some trouble if his CS has not get that upgrade.

Now, of course, even with the hardware upgrade, it's necessary not to connect the "brown" outputs of the transformers altogether.
