I wonder if you can help me out with this puzzle. I have two pictures of a Marklin Ae 3/6 with C-sine motor. Have any of you seen this before & if so where & what was the # No. please?

Dave,

I'm not aware of any Ae3/6 having been factory fitted with a C-sine motor, but I do know that several enthusiasts modified the motor block themselves to convert standard 5-pole motors to C-sine. I don't know if this has been done on a Ae3/6 chassis, but it would not surprise me.

Hello Ray, I cannot for the life of me remember where I got the photo's from but it sure looks like a neat job.I am sure you are correct about the loco being converted by an enthusiast. I just received my Early Bird special package from BW Bahn that had the 37513 AE 3/6 loco in it with sound / MFX recognition & it runs like a charm. I also got the 37525 set of BR E 5 & 52 locos & they look just great running in a consist together. Now I need coaches for that set. Any ideas?

Ray's right..

Looking at my C-Sine models; the boogie mounts are only a little changed from the standard DCM model..
It would be relatively simple milling job in order to fit the large Sinus motor in place of the 5-poler and permanent magnet,
probably would be even easier than converting DCM to SB-modellbau kit.

There are 2 main drawback for the conversion;
First, it's the cost.
Marklin charge an arm and a leg for their large Sinus motor (you might as well get a brand new SDS lok)
if price had been lower, we might see more of such conversions among hobbyists.

Second, no separate driver board for Large Sinus..
Which means user would be stuck in 6090x world and unable to upgrade to MFX and/or Loksound.

Now collecting C-Sine models.

Many thanks for that info. Yes the upgrade if one can call it that would be expensive & obviously limited & I thank you for pointing that out to me. Guys many thanks for all your input on this subject & putting my mind to rest as to where I had seen that Ae3/6 with C-sine motor.

Two alternatives for this "cheap" conversion;

It's cheap if you can find a broken, scrap value-only 39560 with intact motor and decoder..
But then those might be the first things that the seller would first try and sell seperately... and what are the chances of finding one?

It's also cheap (at first) if you should be willing to sacrifice your own 39560 to create an Ae3/6 with Sinus.
But then, you would most probably ruin the future resale value of two models, so it can be expensive as well in the longer term..

Now collecting C-Sine models.
