Another goodie I got in the mail was a BR 95 PIKO 2-10-2 steam loco. The only problem with this engine is I don't know what year it was produced...the gent in Australia had it new with no original box just the styrofoam. To me, it does look in "new" condition; the piping has yet to be installed , the ladders, etc. and, the loco performs excellent around the track EXCEPT its very loud.

Does anyone on here have a PIKO BR 95? Could you let me know if the DC analog units are suppose to be loud growlers or does this need lube? The instruction sheet I received with the loco is a old one--copyright 1987. But the loco has no identification (year, company name, etc.) on the bottom that I can find. The loco is an articulated frame engine because it has 10 drivers and thus will negotiate tight curves.

I asked the gent if i need to lube the engine gear boxes and if there is a way to lube them without disassembly (taking apart this articulated beast does NOT look easy!!) He said I should "lube all moving parts" just a bit. Good advice but a little basic.

Well, there are holes in the bottom of the gearbox /frame and I am wondering if the Germans were smart enuff to make these so you could drop lube into the gearbox without opening it???

ANY HELP APPRECIATED!!!

Tom M.

ps. if indeed this loco was from the 1980s that means it was made in the GDR commie republik as piko was behind the wall, correct? if indeed it was, they sure made good engines back then!
