i am having a problem finding a dealer that has in stock a T-12 in either prussian green or DRG black/red livery. it seems even though the dealers online say "add to cart" you later find out they need to be backordered.

these are items from 2008,09 i dont see why they are not available?

I found 36740 and 36741 - new items from 2010 or 2009 respectively and currently not available from Märklin.
Some webshops have "on stock" indicators, some don't.
Märklin currently doesn't have them on stock.

That's one of the risks of MRR: you order something - and it comes months (or years) later when you least expect it.

Tom

Annoying for customers, in some ways bad for Marklin..

Personally, I can't always buy any item outright when they just come out.. And I find it hard to wait for months for the items that I want to be back in stock.

Quite often, I end up finding alternatives; those items that have been sitting in the shelves for some time (M* has been paid in full for the item years ago, so the sale won't affect M*'s current year earnings..) or getting that irresistable deals in the second hand market.

Either way, every year Marklin probably lose out on around 20% to 30% of the money that I originally intended to spend on New Items.
Now collecting C-Sine models.

yes it is initially frustrating i have noticed that much "new for 2009 or even 2008" is not available at all and the dealers show "add to cart" which doesn't seem a good business practice at all.

my first reaction to this is "give me a break this is the 21st century--a shopping cart system should stop saying "add to cart" when the inventory gets to 0." even i as a wimpy programmer could program such a system.

and....i end up thinking... you dont find out until after you purchase, which is not good customer retention.

BUT THEN I STOP AND see the other side...

i am not "blaming" a certain dealer, it seems most train dealer on the web does this, maybe not a few like onlytrains.com for g scale but again, they are just g scale--but most others take orders and have the customer perceive item is "in stock" when it isn't.

however, i am only a customer and i do not know how hard and difficult it is to be a dealer and get product and be able to "deliver the goods" at the right time. i only want my goodies and it seems frustrating when you have cash ready you can't get them.

so, i am sure the dealers , most that i have dealt with are honest and responsible people, try their best despite the ill-perceptions that "add to cart" give when inventory is not there. i support these dealers and it seems that just replacing software can't be the solution--the problem lies also in the supply chains, the economy, fluctuations in market and dollar, etc. there are variables to this problem i dont even know about and probably could not comprehend.

also, the manufacturers have issues--marklin is faced with all sorts of problems and snafus--and that i am sure has a lot to do with dealers accepting orders without actually having the item on the shelf for their orders that have been promised to arrive days or months ago got held up for (what could be)many, many reasons.

the dealers have to "have faith" and rely on a huge supply chain that doesn't always go smoothly so you end up clicking "add to cart" for something that isn't on the shelf. i have accepted this, mainly because the dealers themselves care about me, my order and getting it completed as fast as possible.
