I am just getting started on my first layout. My problem is reed switches hanging up. If the reed is only used to change the signal it works great. But as soon as I connect it to the turnout and signal it starts hanging up. I am using a Marklin transformer to power the lights and turnouts. When I turn the voltage down to about 12 vac it works sometimes. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am using a Marklin 60213. Should I tie the two grounds together? If this works I could use a circuit track instead of a reed switch.
Thanks In Advance

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you operate with the same reed switch the signal and the turnout connected in parallel, the current flowing through the reed swith is higher and this can cause the hanging up. You can try to operate with the reed switch a monostable auxiliary relay (16 V ac) with 2 (or even only 1) normally open contacts which supply the signal and turnout coils.

Renato,
Thanks you for your advice. I think you are correct on using the relay. I did see an arc when I manually trigged the reed. What I did to solve the problem for now , I changed the reed with a type that I mounted Vertically ( Mouser Electronic part # 876-MK20-B-100w) instead of horizontally also lowered the voltage to 13 V ac. This solved the problem for now. I have 4 blocks in the staging area that I have running automatically
Thanks Again
