Hello,

I sent the motor coach from my 39540 Gottardo set back to Maerklin for repairs because the sound module gave up the ghost after perhaps 10 activations.
The parcel was shipped by USPS Priority Mail on February 2, 2010. According to both USPS.com and DHL.de, the parcel was delivered on February 26, 2010.

The most detailed tracking is available from DHL:

Date/Time Status Description
05.02.10 16:05 Departure sorting hub Shipment arrived at departure sorting hub.
08.02.10 07:49 Export sorting hub Shipment arrived at export sorting hub.
08.02.10 07:50 Transport to destination country Shipment in transportation to destination country.
10.02.10 19:34 Arrival at destination country Shipment arrived at destination country.
10.02.10 20:19 Import entrance Import entrance
11.02.10 15:30 Parcel centre of dispatch The shipment was processed at the outbound hub
12.02.10 05:11 Delivery parcel centre The shipment was processed at the inbound hub
12.02.10 07:18 Delivery The shipment has been handed over for customs clearance.
25.02.10 09:14
26.02.10 06:39 Local delivery hub Shipment processed at local delivery hub
26.02.10 08:20 Delivery The shipment has been delivered

I have a few questions. What happened between 12.02 and 25.02? Why is there no detail to the description of 25.02?

Here is the corresponding information as viewed on USPS.com
Label/Receipt Number: CPXXXXXXXXXUS
Class: Priority Mail International Parcels

Status: Delivered Abroad

Your item was delivered in GERMANY at 8:20 AM on February 26, 2010.

Enter Label/Receipt Number.

The USPS Information gives no detail about the tracking of the parcel between February 12 and the listed delivery on February 26. A full 14 day period where the parcel seems to have gone off the radar. The description of the scan on February 12 is different for the USPS and DHL entries. USPS refers to an attempted delivery on February 12.

In any case, it seems that the parcel has made it to Maerklin. The 14 day delay may have resulted in the item being delivered to Maerklin just after the expiration of the warranty period. I hope that this is taken into account and they will still honour the warranty for the repairs.

I will be contacting USPS for more details on why this Priority Parcel seems to have taken longer than Surface Mail to be delivered to destination.
Every year, the prices go up and the service gets more and more spotty. How long are we expected to put up with this?

Regards

Mike C

Follow up:
Viewing the information on DHL.de in German yielded the following description for the scan on 25.02.2010: "Die Abholung der Sendung war erfolgreich." To me, this translates as "the package was successfully picked up." Is that a correct translation?

It says your package was delivered for customs clearance on february 12. My guess is that it had to wait there, because the clearance can take a lot of time. There are lots of packages to go through. All packages picked out for clearance, have to be opened the content checked and evaluated.

Your translation of the february 25 message looks correct to me, and indicates that the package was picked up from the customs at that day and shipped to Märklin.

Some time ago I ordered that PCM steamer from the clearance sale.

It arrived at Cologne airport (8 km from my home) within 24 hours.
There it lay for about a week (Customs clearance).

Then it went about 200 km by truck across Germany (according to UPS parcel tracking) before it finally arrived here.

Tom

Seems everything is slow from Germany to USA? I ordered a 37453, took about 5 weeks to get it to me. I sent an Engine for repair before Christmas 09, still hasn't made it's way back here to Florida yet? 3-19-2010. I love my Marklin, however fast isn't in the shipping. I also have ordered other items from Germany, Austria, Netherlands it's all the same, slow boat acroos Atlantic?

And I find that it usually takes a couple of weeks for stuff to get to the UK from Germany, 3 weeks from the USA and less than a week from Japan!

Germany to the UK is only three days Chris. If Lokshop ships on a Monday then I have it Wednesday or Thursday.

I guess that depends on the shipment: economy parcels sometimes get shipped, premium parcels get "air-shipped".

Hi David.

Three days from Germany? I've never had anything that quickly and over the last three or so years I have bought a lot (over 100 items) from Germany, both from private sellers and from companies.

Best wishes,
Chris.

I used USPS to mail my zinkpest infested Seetal Krokodil from Houston, TX, to the Märklin Repair Service in Göppingen. It took over a month before Märklin acknowledged receipt of the loco, and about two weeks after that before they emailed me their work order for the repair. God knows how long it will take now for them to repair the loco.

So, patience is the name of the game here.
Best regards,
Armando García

Hi Chris. Most of the major internet dealers use DHL and three or perhaps four days is normal.
If you buy from ebay sellers etc then they will probably use cheap carriers.
Lokshop take about 10 euros for a three day service to Glasgow. It has been the same for the past 25 years. You can track the parcel and know within a few hours when it will be delivered.

dave

PS Glasgow to Australia is only 6/7 days if you wish to pay for it.

Hi David.

I have to admit to not having used Lokshop. The only time I did try to purchase through them they could not help. Shame as they sound good.

All the best from a small island,
Chris.
