It is true that an original would be priced "out of this world", and from what I can see the repro is fairly close to the illustration of the original in the 1938-39 Märklin Catalog.
There are a couple of even rarer O-gauge Märklin steam locos.
First the ME 70/12920, a model of a French "EST" 241P Mountain loco (there is one on display at the Rambolitrain Museum in Rambouillet, near Paris)
Rarest of all probably is L 70/12920, model of the 282 LNER "Cock of the North". I can't remember ever seeing one "for real", but there could be one at the Marklin Museum in Göppingen.
Considering the political tensions between Germany and the UK in the late 1930's may explain the rarity of these items!
